I work for a moderate size American publisher.
It's good, but pretty draining. I don't read manuscripts anymore, but I did for two years and it was exhausting. Seriously 99% or more is absolute shit.

First of all, Stephen King got away with a child sex orgy and with having a black woman counter-rape a demon as part of a banishing ritual. Second of all, dragons fuck people in mythology constantly. CONSTANTLY. Third of all, there's a large market for that particular fetish, myself included. So only an idiot publisher would turn down a story for that reason.
