What's your favorite book? Mine is pic related. I love books that reference mythology in an interesting way that reveals the interconnectedness between the past and present, between humans and nature, and between the world and the universe, and this book fit every bill! :)

i know this is a troll thread, but i have to say i was honestly disappointed at how intolerably bad it actually was. i shamelessly enjoy brainless popcorn novels and the sandman comics, but i seriously couldn't even get through the first chapter of this garbage. he writes like a 14 year old.

So good, finally got the retranslation. Rereading again once I finish Stranger In A Strange Land.

I read half of this and gave up.
I'm surprised I got that far through it, honestly.

I hope people that say this is their favorite book understand the explicit metaphors. If misunderstood it well indeed could set someone down the road to fedora.

One of my favorites books too desu
>>
Funny, I just started Neverwhere right now.

Seems pretty boring to be honest. Did I fall for the Gaiman meme?
>>
>>7591945
Dunno, I really enjoyed Anansi brothers by Gaiman, funny characters and engaging story.
>>
Eragon! _
>>
>>7591962
Dude. It's a fun book.
>>
>>7592890

Neverwhere is basically Dr. Who without any Doctor. Gaiman has influenced and been influenced heavily by that particular culture, so maybe that gives you an idea about what you should expect from him.

DESU it is a bit boring but quirky and bizarre enough for me to have enjoyed a read-through.

I read the first 100 pages or so but I stopped because it felt like it was going nowhere. The only plot it had was vague as hell and Shadow is a bore. Does it get better after the first 100 pages?

Pic very related. I always hated the books they made me read in English class but this changed everything. It's the first book that actually had references for REAL geeks instead of snooty old books from 200 years ago. I'm also really impressed he came up with all this vr stuff before Oculus was announced.
>>
>>7592920
It doesn't really go anywhere, but it's clever and fun.

Thats really your FAVORITE book? Hitchens is a great debater and his books lay out excellent arguments, but give me a break. Thats the book you read over and over again on a summer vacation or in the bath.

>>7592968
Dude, check out /r/hitchens, he's the best and his writing is more clear than anyone's

I liked it

best parts/scenes

1. bar scene with the autist and the chick
2. that one chapter near the beginning where its just a bunch of random snippets of conversations mixed with tax code and background office noises
3. lsd-dosed picnic
4. when he has the funny conversation on the way to the IRS center and then gets blowed when he is mistaken for a senior staff
5. the kid who tries to make everyone happy but he has no friends and people dont like him
>>
>>7592963

I only read the chapter on Buddhism because someone wanted to know what I thought of it but I found that it was a shitty combination of disrespect, dumb stereotypes and ignorant generalizations. He really didn't address any of the teachings themselves, it was actually a lot like the worse examples of stupid generalizations found on /pol/ and I say that as someone who browses and likes /pol/ but recognizes that a lot of stupid shit is posted there.

I can't even do it anymore - I have lost. Obviously I was trolling. This whole thread was a troll thread. Ready Player One? American Gods? I feel sorry for you that you have ever read Hitchens. I have never thought, nor will ever think, about reading his work.
>>
I'm confused. Are we doing joke favourite books?
>>
>>7593047
Let me explain the thread, thereby ruining it, which is fine because it's a bad thread. OP claims that American Gods is his favorite book, either ironically being a faggot trying to draw a rise from people calling him out as redditcancer or unironically with shitty taste. The posters who followed decided it was either the former or would insult OP's shitty taste by pretending it was the former. Then some oblivious seriousfags came in and posted their actual favorites or otherwise responded seriously. Does that help?
>>
>>7593069
To be honest, I responded seriously despite knowing this is a joke thread. Why not?
>>
>>7592994
>check out /r/hitchens

ill pass, I dont attend atheist circle jerks. If there is no god so be it, discussing a null value in an atmosphere of superiority is pathetic.

Who gives a fuck how clear his writing is, if that is your favorite book you should read more.

People are telling him go back to Reddit because it's sub par bait. Really, Vonnegut and Camus would've been better because they're atleast somewhat literary.
