Hey /lit/, I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction.
I'm the classic STEM person who didn't get much time to study English. Over the last few years I've really enjoyed reading in my free time. My problem is that I don't think I know enough about composition and grammar to really turn a critical eye to what I'm reading.
Things like proper conjunction usage, split infinitives (if people still care so much about those?), participles, etc.. Unfortunately, my work schedule doesn't afford me the time to take classes at a local university so I'm constrained in that sense.
What would be some good resources for a person like me? I've been really enjoying Garner's Dictionary of Modern American Usage, but think I would get more out of it with better understanding of composition/grammar.
