Seconded.

Meh, none of these strike me as must reads.
>>
Schopenhauer's On Women
Mein Kampf by Hitler
Decline of the West by Spengler
Evola
The Culture of Critique series by McDonald
>>
>>7576667
Definitely not must reads, but I feel they're great thought provokers for anyone under 20.

the alchemist is a must read for anybody around the age of 20
>>
I don't think it matters, if you have an innate interest in literature you will get around the reading the books you 'need' to read and reading one of them sooner than later I don't think will make too much of a difference.

Instead if you wanted to make the most of your reading particularly before you're twenty, pick a particular topic and study it in depth, or begin learning a language.

Although something like >>7576672 is not so bad an answer. Exposing yourself to a radical ideology that you probably wouldn't encounter otherwise, like far right wing traditionalism, is a good idea.

I'm sorry for enjoying something you don't

Here are some books I really like, even though they might not be must-reads
most of them I read when I was 17-20

1984
The Name of the Rose (be prepared to have a latin dictionary close by)
A brave new world
The Lord of the flies

it's all entry-level, but that's the point of this thread, no?

I just read this but I didn't really see it as much more than a short story about somebody who lived their life based on their feelings in the present and immediate future only and nothing else

It's the story of emotional repression. You can test it for yourself. Deny all feelings for several years, the subjective part of that book will then be your biography.

If you think that The Alchemist is remotely decent you must have Asperger's
>>
Steppenwolf
>>
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
1984
>>

The 1001 Arabian Nights
Works of Plato
Annals of Confucius
Death in Venice
Waiting for Godot
Various Shakespeare
Candide
Illiad/ Odyssey
All easy to understand and/ or short. Should be easy to read these by age 20.

You have autism, don't you?
>>
>>7579406
I'm 19 and I've read/ understand them. They're not too long like Proust or too complex like Joyce.
>>
>>7579416

Irregardless of the plaintiff, you have asspies?
>>
>>7579421
No. They're not that hard. The Odyssey exists in many easier to understand translations and it's like 300 pages. For non-genre fiction fans it should be easy. Is this bait? These were taught in high school.
>>
>>7579406

Haha what. Okay, let's do these in order.

The difficulty of the Odyssey and the Iliad depend entirely on your translation; Chapman or Cowper may be more of a challenge for an inexperienced reader, but if you've got Fagles or some shit then it's no problem.

Plato isn't hard to read either; the Symposium and the Republic are both easily comprehensible by someone younger than 20.

Shakespeare is part of high school curricula. Pretty much everyone who has a western education has read Shakespeare before 20. It's not hard either, you just need to get used to some slightly older English.

God, this board is fucking retarded.

Read anything at any time. It simply doesn't matter what age you are. As long as you're reading, you're in a better place then most.

Sorrows of Young Werther should be a textbook in all schools.
>>
>>7579684

This. I admit I have a little regret that I didn't do more reading in my teens/20's but I have done so much of it in my 30's that I feel pretty up to speed as if I had read all of this stuff when I was younger.

Even now I have a huge leg-up on most people I know in their 50's-70's. I know one guy who didn't start seriously reading until his late 40's.
