Will /lit/ still call me a pleb if I buy and read all the 100 books in the pic?

Unless you also read The Tunnel, yes.
>>
>>7572006
So all those 100 books in the pic are garbage?
>>
>>7572001

Even though there are a lot of pleb books on that list there are also a good a number of serious books as well. The sheer amount of books we are talking about combined with the fact that many are good would probably negate the fact that a dozen or so are super-pleb books. You would be even less of a pleb if you tried that based on the more recent top 100 book list that was compiled about 3 or 4 months ago that had way more people participate in it and better statistical methods. I would post it but I can't find it either on my computer or in one of the archives. If any anon sees this point and realizes they have it saved I would appreciate it if they could post it here.

yea

lots of those are shite

Compared to The Tunnel, most of them are, yes.
>>
>>7572018

That poster is joking. "The Tunnel" is good but it is hardly required reading for someone trying to become patrician.
>>
If you accept the following as true, you will be patrician:

You will always be pleb.
>>
>>7572020
I'll wait for that swest precious list in a hope that some Anon would post it.

>>7572022
Please specify.

>>7572026
Nigga please.
>>
The only way you'll stop being a pleb is if you read all of these: http://interleaves.org/~rteeter/grtbloom.html
>>
That list now seems dated; it probably works better as an intro to /lit/. When I started visiting here a few years back 1984 was considered patrician and there were many threads discussing it.
>>
>>7572059
theres a 2015 list and it's just as bad
>>
>>7572001
Develop your own taste faggot.
>>
>>7572046
Don't use any of these stupid guides whose contents were democratically decided by a group made up entirely of mediocre people. Listen to the opinions of an expert whose been studying literature for 60+ years, e.g. Harold Bloom: >>7572056

>Stoner
Why does everyone love that book? What did you all get out of it? I spent half of the book cringing at how utterly passive he was. I can't even say that the story narrated his life; It's more like his life was narrated by everything depressing around it and every day to him was like a dying breath until it finally came with precious few respites in between.

Maybe it's just the /fit/ in me hating everything that's weak in the world, but I seriously could not accept how pitiful William Stoner was as a character. He had multiple chances to change his life around but more-or-less chose not to.

Answer the rest of my post you morbid freak.
>>
>>7572324
So you didn't like the book because you couldn't directly relate to the protagonist? Sounds pretty pleb to me. If you want a discussion about it, there are lots in the archives. It is one of the few books that have decent discussions on lit on a regular basis.
>>
>>7572334

>>7572336
No, I didn't like the book because the protagonist was a bitch.

>>
>>7572362
I'd read a book about a character like you fwiw. The internet nerd who tries to improve his life by taking fitness advice from message boards is emblematic of our zeitgeist.
>>
>>7572001
If you read them all because /lit/, yes, you are a pleb.
Most people here have an average and snobbish taste, that would be unwise to follow.

Just read whatever you want. If you see any book you like in the chart, read it; if you don't a book, read it, or drop it if you already started it.

Using /lit/'s recommendations for reading is like asking James Franco for recommended literature. You just don't do that.
>>
>>7572324
>Why does everyone love that book?
I feel very emphatic towards Stoner. It gave me strong feelings.

>What did you all get out of it?
C'est la vie.
>>
>>7572001
Most definitely, it was a completely different /lit/ that put that list together. Two years old, senpai.
>>
>>7572059
your post implies that the state of literature changed in a few years such that 1984 somehow became less patrician.

More accurate is that the board culture went full meme status
>>
>>7572449
Pretty sure that post was about changing attitudes on the board itself.

no it just looks shitty with votes (at the bottom i mean, idc about infinte memes) plus its not nicely aligned
>>
>>7572507
Sorry, but the votes need to stay, for it is necessary that we always remember the shameful ballot stuffing that took place on that day.
>>
>>7572527
crossposting from another thread:

>2 votes is enough to get a book onto the chart

it's literally a chart made by people who've read like 30 - 50 books in their lives, usually meme books, voting in whatever book they happened to actually read. it is so incredibly divorced from considerations of quality and perspective and taste.
>>
>>7572278

>>7572527
Oh no. Ballot stuffing in an anonymous 4chan poll!? Stop the presses!!!
>>
>>7572339
Yeah, massive pleb detected
>>
>>7572530
Then why do you care about which version of the chart people post
>>
>>7572537
I still haven't had anyone rebut my argument. What was the point of the book outside of narrating the life of a passive beta male?
>>
>>7572408
>his life was narrated by everything depressing around it
>>
>>7572539
that's not me im just pointing out all of these charts are fucking stupid :)
>>
>>7572551
To tell a story with which people who aren't deeply insecure about their masculinity due to internalizing a psychopathic internet nerd ideology that doesn't permit passivity in men can sympathize.

>>7572564
Fair enough.
