Go to a used book bookstore first, buy some classical pieces, then move on from there.
Also Penguin classics are good, but the size format is shit.
How good are your reading skills? If they are above high school level George Orwell is a nice author, 1984 is good, Animal farm is good if you are in to politics
The old man and the sea by Hemingway is nice, short as well so you won't be bored
Of mice and men by Steinbeck
