What writer had the most interesting life?

What writer had the most boring life?
>>
Most interesting: David Foster Wallace

Least interesting: Thomas Pynchon

Pic most definitely related

DFW
>>
most mysterious /=/ most boring

Hemmingways and Burroughs seemed interesting

Prousts seemed boring in a comfy way
>>
Rimbaud and Mishima are without a doubt the coolest writers.

you
>>
to add to most interesting ones - Junger and Pratt
>>
>>7548914
Definitely Hemingway, Burroughs & Rimbaud. Pynchon travelled around a bit. Gaddis working as a speech writer for Wall Street always sounded interesting to me too. & Ovid was a political exile.

DFW literally like went to a decent state school, graduated and got a graduate degree in creative writing, sat around eating 7-11 snacks and watching MTV and then killed himself. I highlight these three things because they are the most interesting things he did, and it shows in his extremely boring, long books on tennis and TV. That's why so many male writers have gone from these worldly travelers who fucked underage girls and young boys in the ass to today, where they literally sit around nurturing a pair of man-tits so they can breastfeed anime nerds.

Edgar Allen Poe and Marco Polo come to mind.

Kant had a boring life by anyone's standard
>>
>>7548877
Not sure about the first one, but Herman Melville has to be a contender.

DFW or Nietzsche, who found himself even bored to death by being a combat surgeon.
>>
>>7549010
yeah Bolaño had a pretty hectic literary life. I dont know anyhting about DFW but it seems like hewould have had a regular midwestern U.S. life. is that right?
>>
>>7548948
Amherst is not 'a decent state school.' It's an elite liberal arts college.

I always found DFW's life to be fascinating. Like seriously, all the elite education, literary friends, being able to go wherever you want, extreme autism, reading 300 books a year, dating intellectual qts /lit/ can't even dream of, getting the living-legend-tier level of recognition...

Not to mention that he must've done a lot of cool shit in order to write all these works which capture the essence of humanity like nothing else. Can't really deny it.

Gasbro desu.

Live streams himself breakdancing (back spins)and doing shots at gay disco at 1am then goes downstairs into a lounge and writes a book about Satan.
>>
>>7549328
Don't forget the year doing solitary in military jail for undisclosed war crimes.
>>
>>7549330
Never heard that
>>
>>7549330
And wrote ten books in a series. Even if it's shit, teens still might buy.
>>
Most interesting: Hans Fallada

Least interesting: Fernando Pessoa
>>
>>7549341
He was showing off some papers on cam that seemed to prove it.
>>
>>7549330
Wouldn't you have to kill someone to get put away like that?
>>
>>7549362
That or get caught raping some civilian children.
>>

>hans fallada
>tfw you'll never kill your friend in a duel over a woman
>>
>>7549328
who?
>>
>>7549366
He feeds ducks and shit. I doubt he raped kids. He did a live feed from a bookstore called Joseph Beth. Someone else said they thought he gunned down civilians overseas
>>
Stephen King had a pretty interesting life. Did drugs. Got run over. Actually no he didn't
>>
>>7549380
Oh right, he'd shoot a bunch of people but wouldn't fuck a kid. It's not as though there are any religious pedophiles.

I saved this picture of his books.

You'd get more than a year for raping somebody. If it was shit that happened in a firefight then a year sounds about right. I think it's all bullshit anyway

Gaskun is a ~38 year old living in Lexington, Kentucky. Previously a soldier in the Balkans, gaskun returned home, got married, worked various jobs (most recently a part-time salesman at a Liquor Barn) and now refills and cleans trucks at a small garage adjacent to a popular golf course. He smokes, he drinks, he listens to techno music and he cares for his handful of friends, most of whom are struggling to gain meaningful employment like himself. Last year Gaskun was offered a job at a warehouse, but the lack of basic health and safety offended him so much that he resigned and returned to his booth at the truck stop, occasionally opening his laptop to edit or contribute to his lengthy space opera, or to save some notes about various other ideas he has for fictional works. Gaskun is a popular figure on /lit/ partly to his open and frank personality, and partly to his inclusion of photographs of his workplace alongside his posts. Most recently Gaskun met up with an Anon from Louisville, KY who turned out to be a female who just graduated college and is now waiting to hear back about her funding application to study an MA. As of last week they are now dating, though she has returned to Louisvile where she lives with her parents.

Most interesting: Hunter S. Thompson or Ludwig Wittgenstein, maybe

Least interesting: Don DeLillo/Joseph McElroy
>>
>>7549407
I was gonna post Don Delillo too. How come you think that?
>>
>>7549405
How do you know all that?
Have you seen the notes for the second series? It's fucking huge. The question is will he write it?
>>
>>7549405
That doesn't make any sense. How would he have a girlfriend if he's married? Don't forget nude model for a university.
>>
>>7549423
They divorced, pleb.
>>
>>7549110
and no disernible talent.
>>
>>7549405
sounds like the worst kind of individual desu. painfully uninteresting, living a trite and meaningless existence, trying to win the affection of anonymous posters on an indonesian skinflute imageboard
>>
>>7549445
He doesn't talk shit about others. Another anon said he was a beta reader for gasbro's series and said it didn't suck but was geared towards the teen audience.
>>
>>7548877

>>
>>7549110
DFW's life is pretty admittedly boring. He just wanted to be a simple Midwesterner in Illinois, complete inverse of Bolano who traveled the world with pretty much no money and only started writing novels instead of poetry to make money for his family because he realized he was going to die soon.

Other than that, Pynchon was supposedly hauling a ton of marijuana over the Mexican border for a while. Melville sailed the world, was called "the man who lived among the cannibals". Hemingway was wild.
>>
Probably William Burroughs

There's a comic book/game store he writes at on Fridays in Frankfort. A few weeks ago he did a live stream and walked across the road to a liquor store and drank a small bottle of bourbon in the parking lot. There was an autozone in the background. When I googled those things together and put it on map level it was a perfect match. The guy who runs the shop says he's been writing there from 7pm-2am for the past 8 years while one of his friends plays MTG

Dude, DFW graduated from an elite college with highest honors in two majors while publishing his first novel, went to grad school for philosophy at Harvard and BTFO a senior professor in his first year there, then dropped out write a treatise on underground hip-hop before setting in on Infinite Jest. At some point in the process he also got an MFA from Arizona and published a handful of essay collections and short fiction books, while working as a staff writer for Harper's.

He somehow also had time to be mentally unstable and watch too much TV but everyone has their flaws.

>Kant had a boring life by anyone's standard
Fucker won billiard tournaments to finance his studies. Plus he was apparently pretty good with the ladies.

If you want to pick a "not really german" german for most boring life try Kafka.
>>
>>7549507
Even if it's for kids it'll still probably be better than RPO. Tbh
>>
I have no idea whose life was the most interesting but anyone who doesn't say Fernando Pessoa had the most boring life is straight up wrong.
>>
>>7548877
Others already mentioned Burroughs, so perhaps Louis-Ferdinand Céline? Joined the French army at age 16, fought in WWI, later on went to Africa, was held a slave at a galley, took on a short-lived gig at one of Ford's factories, came back to France only to treat sick people for free for the rest of his life and write more novels. He was also a rabid anti-semite and had an affair with a famous burlesque actress. Cool stuff.
>>
>>7548877
Most: Bernal Díaz del Castillo (conquistador, fought in the conquest of mexico)

Least: bukowski. fuck that shitface
>>
>>7549926
>Plus he was apparently pretty good with the ladies.
he literally died a virgin

Most interesting life: Brian Blessed. Nigga went up everest without extra oxygen in his 70s; he's off to the international space station this year in his 80s; owns over 1000 species of animal; is a boxing champ; has an amazing voice and is the most articulated person to champion the word "spunk bubble"; he's in his 80s and could still kick your NEET ass. Alpha as fuck (seriously check this shit up if you doubt it).

Lovecraft lived a pretty tedious life. He was an introvert who complained a lot about shitty writing in magazines and that was kinda it. The racism spiel is kinda interesting but only how it manifested in his work (not that I condone racism but I have an interest in those earlier depictions in older literature). Apart from that, it was all kinda mundane.

> On 19 January 2015, Blessed collapsed on stage during a performance of King Lear with the Guildford Shakespeare Company, in which his daughter Rosalind was also acting. He received medical attention from a doctor in the audience and returned, 20 minutes later, to the stage to complete the play

Holy shit.

gonna add Frank Herbert to most interesting

boringest would be most poets who aren't deviant French symbolists or deviant renaissance court poets
>>
most boring is Emily Dickinson. she stayed inside and wrote poems her whole life. close second is Kierkegaard, whose highlight was almost getting married once.
>>
>>7551361

That's more than the average /r9k/ poster, he had something going for him, which was nice.

'Zeno was like wise an Eleat. Not in his State alone was his conduct held in high respect, for his fame was universal, and he was esteemed particularly as a teacher. In very various narratives his death was made for ever celebrated for the strength of his mind evinced in it; it was said that he freed a State (whether his own home at Elea or in Sicily, is not known) from its Tyrant (the name is given differently, but an exact historical account has not been recorded) in the following way, and by the sacrifice of his life. He entered into a plot to overthrow the Tyrant, but this was betrayed. When the Tyrant now, in face of the people, caused him to be tortured in every possible way to get from him an avowal of his confederates, and when he questioned him about the enemies of the State, Zeno first named to the Tyrant all his friends as participators in the plot, and then spoke of the Tyrant himself as the pest of the State. The powerful remonstrances or the horrible tortures and death of Zeno aroused the citizens, inspired them with courage to fall upon the Tyrant, kill him, and liberate themselves. The manner of the end, and his violent and furious state of mind, is very variously depicted. He is said to have pretended to wish to say something into the Tyrant’s ear, and then to have bitten his ear, and thus held him fast until lie was slain by the others. Others say that he seized him by the nose between his teeth; others that as on his reply great tortures were applied, he bit off his tongue and spat it into the Tyrant’s face, to show him that he could get nothing from him, and that he then was pounded in a mortar.'
