Definitely Hemingway, Burroughs & Rimbaud. Pynchon travelled around a bit. Gaddis working as a speech writer for Wall Street always sounded interesting to me too. & Ovid was a political exile.
DFW literally like went to a decent state school, graduated and got a graduate degree in creative writing, sat around eating 7-11 snacks and watching MTV and then killed himself. I highlight these three things because they are the most interesting things he did, and it shows in his extremely boring, long books on tennis and TV. That's why so many male writers have gone from these worldly travelers who fucked underage girls and young boys in the ass to today, where they literally sit around nurturing a pair of man-tits so they can breastfeed anime nerds.

DFW's life is pretty admittedly boring. He just wanted to be a simple Midwesterner in Illinois, complete inverse of Bolano who traveled the world with pretty much no money and only started writing novels instead of poetry to make money for his family because he realized he was going to die soon.
Other than that, Pynchon was supposedly hauling a ton of marijuana over the Mexican border for a while. Melville sailed the world, was called "the man who lived among the cannibals". Hemingway was wild.

Dude, DFW graduated from an elite college with highest honors in two majors while publishing his first novel, went to grad school for philosophy at Harvard and BTFO a senior professor in his first year there, then dropped out write a treatise on underground hip-hop before setting in on Infinite Jest. At some point in the process he also got an MFA from Arizona and published a handful of essay collections and short fiction books, while working as a staff writer for Harper's.
He somehow also had time to be mentally unstable and watch too much TV but everyone has their flaws.

Lovecraft lived a pretty tedious life. He was an introvert who complained a lot about shitty writing in magazines and that was kinda it. The racism spiel is kinda interesting but only how it manifested in his work (not that I condone racism but I have an interest in those earlier depictions in older literature). Apart from that, it was all kinda mundane.
