Fantastic.
I loved it translated---I have the Elsworth edition, but I do intend on buying and rereading through the other two big translations (McDuff and Maguire/Malmstad).
It's really a toss-up, unlike with a lot of other great works that have a definitive translation (e.g. Guerney for Gogol's "Dead Souls," Davis for Flaubert), it's truly a toss-up. Elsworth does not have any annotations while M/M has, from what I've heard, a large amount of very detailed notes, if that helps you decide at all.

Gurney only translated "Dead Souls," as far as I know. And as for his short stories, I've only ever checked out the P&V collection, so I cannot comment on the quality of the already limited options.

I read the bookwhen I was in jailand I couldn't put it down. The book grabbed hold of me. I can't speak for his other work but that book in particular I love, it's like a love letter to pulp.
