Americans love two themes:
1) The selfless hero sacrificing himself for the greater good (no doubt related to certain christian archetypes)
and
2) Revenge stories (probably comes from our European or Indo-European pastoral roots of justice, eye for an eye logic).
So, I'm sure there are a great deal of Americans, and Europeans that enjoy this book.

That's exactly what I wrote in my goodreads review, weird, but pure coincidence, it is really a book that appeals to everything US-Americans think makes a "great man", self-dependency, sacrifice, etc.
I liked it a lot actually, hyped to see the movie

Those things appeal to people of every nationality.

Not as much as you would think. Asian cultures, who value collectivity over individuality, may not.

Not true. Many of the great Portuguese poems are about the Portuguese, even when represented as an individual, a king, etc...

How well did the hallucanations and dreams go in the prose?

you're making some very simple generalizations that have no basis in objective reality. Go back to watching anime
Koreans are born with revenge in their blood. Is that not Asia?
Collectivity is much stronger in the west now too.
