Only did this once, with Suttree. I enjoyed it, but couldn't read big lengths at a time the same way I would with an imaginative plot-driven story. Like the same author's No Country for Old Men. Still, both prose and plot can each be enjoyable.

I don't give a single fuck how "deep" or "intellectual" the book I am reading is - if the fucking book's prose is God awful, then I just can't get into the story and enjoy it as much. Plus, it just makes the message of the story blur if I have to re-read the same passage 3 times because the prose is God awful.
