Andreas' trial was one of the most difficult things I've ever read, I stopped some 5 times as he got closer to revealing everything in front of the crowd. I would have been perfectly fine with Villefort being killed but that was way too much.

Read it in Finnish when I was teenager. I wish I understood French so I could read it in its original language.
Can't really rate the translation as I dont understand France as language at all, but I enjoyed it.
If the book wanted to make me feel satisfied of calculated long term revenge then it made its point sufficiently.
The movie I saw of it was really really bad.
I'm with you OP. What a fucking ride this was. I've read it around two years ago, can't wait for some more time to pass so I forget almost everything and reread it again.
I remember finishing the book in 6 days and just being struck with awe. What a masterpiece. One of the rare cases where I can claim a book will stay in my top 5, no matter what happens.
Currently on page 160, started it yesterday. I love it and it's an easy read. Can't help but feel some of it is filler, but honestly, after reading Infinite Jest, any narrative seems like filler to me now. I am broken.
