Good book imho.

It's a shame that it's overused by tumblrinas, who think that Plath 'understands' how they feel when their going through some triviality in their lives (recent rupture, problems in high school, etc).

I like the book, but not so much its main audience.

Because K-pop is actually good.
And when was there a "general" of anything on lit?
>>
>>7521963
you don't "get" a dedicated general.
You make one and keep it bumped and if you have people behind you and can keep a thread going then there you have your general.

You'll have to force it for a week and if it's a good general it'll persist.

Any popular literary fiction that is the least bit accessible is considered pleb.

The Great Gatsby, The Catcher in the Rye, Atlas Shrugged, The Bell Jar, To Kill a Mockingbird, anything by Bronte or Austen or Steinbeck, etc.

Lolita, Heart of Darkness, etc. get a pass because of the content.

> k-pop
> good

What's the difference between k-pop and Top 40s floor filler shit? Waifu drama is not allowed to be an answer if you treat k-pop as a legitimate form of "good" music.
>>
>>7521794
I think people moan and sigh over Blood Meridian because many people have already discussed it excessively. It just kinda happens with the popular books around here: I made a Gravity's Rainbow thread that went down well while I was reading it over the Summer but we still had many people whining about it.

>>
>>7523007
Gatsby, Catcher, To Kill a Mockingbird, Bronte and Austen have pretty dedicated followings on /lit/, anon. Some people are just contrarians and want to ruffle feathers, whereas I'm sure others do find those works overrated, but many do appreciate them.

Atlas Shrugged is bound to be divisive really, and as an earlier post stated, the gripe many have with The Bell Jar is the Tumblr-crowd that follow it blindly rather than the book itself (personally I think one should distance the original work from its following, but I understand that can be difficult).
>>
>>7520714
>Madame Bovary
I think the consensus here is that it's an almost perfect piece of writing.
The only complaints I've seen on this board about it are about the plot being boring, but that's missing the point entirely IMO
>>
>>7520938

god she's a babe. but yeah, lots of people like plath because 'so feminist and confessional and about depression and omg i can relate'. She's not a good poet because she wrote about being a depressed middle class girl, she's a good poet because she worked really hard and wrote well crafted poems. the fans kind of ruin it all though. same with bukowski.

I'll join in with your thread concept tho OP. I feel 'Of Mice and Men' would be dismissed as 'high school core' or something like that, it's a pretty nice book though.
>>
>>7521798

that book is really edgy and does nothing interesting literarily. There's some kind of high school philosophy discussed I guess but it's genre fiction at best.

>'so feminist and confessional and about depression and omg i can relate'
The thing is that Plath actually suffered severe depression, was filled with antidepressants and anti-anxiety pills, and she even was in a mental institution were she received shock treatment. That's far away of the teens who think 'get' Plath and relate to her because their parents don't leave them go to a party or their boyfriends just broke up with them.
