im deciding on starting one of two stories ive been thinking about. both arent fully clear in my head

one is a guy having a bad vacation and the other is a trio of stories around a dentist, granite worker, and ex entrepreneur collecting royalties. these are very bland descriptions tho so whatever.

A short story (possible novella, we'll see how it turns out) about an battle between benevolent witches and a Satanic cult in 1970s England.

I'm writing a novella about a man and woman exchanging letters and then promising to meet. The man gets killed by her. It's a pretty basic concept I'm aware. I'm only three pages in.

Star Epic II

Premise:
In 2086, a UFO appears instantaneously just outside Earth's atmosphere. It crash lands in Central Park Manhattan. upon being surrounded, the airlock opens and and a man steps out of the ship with long unkept beard and hair (like a castaway). The man falls to his knees, screams in agony and collapses dead on the spot.
2131: due to the reverse engineering of the technology on the ship, the earth no longer has an energy crisis and mankind now has the resources to explore space and utilize discovered wormholes to search out other planets capable of being colonized. Long distance probes return from the wormholes reporting extensive coverage of 9 habitable and accommodating planets for colonization.
2144: after studying the information from the probes, an initiative is created to send 9 shuttles through the wormholes to start colonization.
2156: the shuttles are ready to leave:

The main story follows brothers Joseph and Adrian Thompson and four other selected gifted and trained young adults (ages 21-25) as they battle against 3 other groups in contests of wits and science to be selected as the engineering group who will be responsible for manning the "RIG" a floating repair and monitoring station that will ultimately follow each of the shuttles to their destinations and ensure each arrives safely at their destination.

the genre is hard science fiction and the story is not teen or YA. The candidates have to be young so that they're still physically capable of performing their grueling duties across the 20 year mission.

Plot twists involve:
The backgrounds and skeletons in the closets of the other candidates, the rumored "militarized" ship to follow, and the intentions and motivations of the candidates older mentor who is being "put out to pasture" and will ultimately be their superior for the duration of their travels.

Tldr:

I'm writing a story about a post-apocalyptic fantasy world where a lady just wanders from place to place forcing people together into Cronenberg meshes.

I'm trying to take that hippie "We're all one man" and expand upon it. I think we'd be pretty fuckin' gross terrifying creatures if we were. But like, I don't feel like I can connect to people through all the blood and bones that well. You can't really get inside someones head or really be known.
>>
I wanna do a pulp detective story set in the modern day but it's hard to find classic detective tropes that aren't completely changed by the Internet or modern csi technology.
>>
>>7509153
You could set it in a less than affluent area. I mean the movie 'Brick' kind of had that Pulp detective idea just in High School so that they were limited by setting.

You could set the whole thing in one day, the day where Detective dude finally gets his cell phone internet bundle shut off because he's a drunk, or because his secretary is inept, and he has to hoof it on the streets. It could tie together in that some damsel comes to him while he's still just as capable as any modern detective, he takes on the case, and just when he finds out how do or die the situation is, bam, internet's out. He has no friends because he's a shitty person and a drunkard. You know what, nix the secretary. He had one, but him being a shit person means the secretary don't give a shit about working there and was pocketing money from day one, causing the outage. There could be moments where he has to look back on what his grand pappy taught him about being a detective as he pummels in the face of some street thug. Street thug's out so he steals the phone, but doesn't realize it's password protected. In the end he realizes his reliance has taken him out of the dirt and grit that he was promised as a little kid growing up on pulp novels.

Eh, fuck it. I don't care.

A noir/fantasy drama set in an amusement park (inc. adult's lounge) which is a subsidiary to a huge entertainment corporation. Follows a deadbeat who lies his way under the wing of the park's owner to find out info about his sister's previous disappearance, a starlet signed to the corp's record label who wants to break out of her residency agreement at the park, and the manager's only son; who is being groomed as an heir yet is increasingly disillusioned by the business. Need to work out a LOT of the plot (and I'm undecided whether to set it present day or somewhat further back) but the main themes I'm going for are escapism, entrapment and reconciling your own wants with others' expectations

Thank you anon! I know there's an audience for the things that have inspired this (Mulholland Drive, Revolutionary Road, Mad Men, tinfoil Disney conspiracies) but that bit of interest was reassuring to hear as I haven't mentioned my writing to anyone whilst it's in a fledgling stage. Most of my thoughts are going towards worldbuilding right now

Sometimes I wake up in a great mood. And then I get off my bed, and step in cum covered socks. It's not my cum. I forget that Bill Clinton lives under my bed.

It's a bit like having the world's horniest roommate, but he's confined to the small space under your bed. I've learned to adjust over this time. I no longer have sex in my bed. The thought of 200 year old Bill Clinton masturbating to me having sex with someone is a bit disturbing. Not to mention the secret service agents who are constantly in the bedroom.

I also have to watch what I leave on my bedroom floor. Anything, and everything, becomes a portable vagina when in the hands of the former President of the United States. The socks I mentioned earlier, any shirts left unattended on the floor, books, hats, bills, the vacuum cleaner. I have nightmares of my pillow falling off my bed, and secret service agents putting it back under my head after Bill Clinton has his way with it.

I wish I could say that there is some kind of trade off. That he gives me solid advice from all his years as a leader. That as a lifelong womanizer, he can teach me the secrets of super seduction. But mostly he just grunts and masturbates. It's getting pretty old.

Maybe I'll move.

I am writing an Appalachian neo-noir crime novel.

It follows a middle-aged, witty and snarky police officer who has left his job as a police officer in Columbus, OH and relocated to Witcher, West Virginia. While investigating a mysterious drug-related death of an unidentifiable man on the edge of town, the Detective uncovers a trove of child pornography featuring the dead man.

He embarks on an investigation that leads him and his new partner to go undercover as a father and daughter in an incestuous relationship looking to be admitted to a drug-running cult that believes a new Great Flood is on the horizon and the only way to survive is to interbreed.

Along the way we meet a weird cast of characters including a bartender with amnesia, a traveling saleswoman that sells deer testicles in bulk, a bus driver that believes he's the reincarnation of the poet Lord Byron, and a flamboyant prophet and his acolytes on a farm in the hills of Appalachia.

tl;dr Season 1 of True Detective meets Inherent Vice meets Paul Dano in There Will Be Blood

I'm writing a couple of science-fiction short stories set in a detention center wherein a dysfunctional android freshly convinced of assaulting meets a local kingpin, a robber, another android involved in a deadly highway crash and a depressive mother accused of infanticide. The prison is located in a near-future Switzerland where the narrator—the main character—follows and comments the detainees' life as well as his own attempts to be recognized prisoner of war. So far I'm in the middle of the second one where the group tries to set up a libertarian regime inside their cell block.

None, really. The idea is to make it a simple smut story where the sex is romantic in nature. And I'm a pretty vanilla guy, anyway.

A story about a strange gigantic city-state in an unknown location and at an unknown time period, its weird laws of physics and its weird inhabitants and a mixture of architecture from different time periods in our human civilization, and a lower class heroine whos entire existence/character is actually stitched together from each of the dreams/nightmares dreamt by the tyranic ruler of the city, unknowingly to both of them. I aim it more as a Pynchon rip-off but people will probably take it as a eccentric young adult novel in the end.
>>
It's a short story.

It takes place in a world where everyone is born with wings. In this world, the majority of people have their feathers fall off, some sooner rather than later. Typically by the time they are a teenager, they're gone. This is the norm, and people who keep their feathers past a certain age are thought to be strange.

My story focuses on two friends who haven't lost theirs yet. A boy, who obsessively picks out his feathers, and a girl, who has just woken up from a nightmare about having her feathers torn out. She tries to open up to her friend about her odd fear of losing her feathers, but he does not listen to her.

She gets mad and but makes eye contact with an older man that the two friends see whenever they visit the park. He happens to have all of his feathers still. She walks over to him for the first time, and they have an interesting conversation.

Writing a story that juxtapositions two men's identity based struggles. One is a homicide detecive who dreams of being the stereotypical hero but struggles with his own twisted, almost sociopathic nature. The other is a med school student who is a relative of a ruling crime family. His family tried to exclude him from the business but he wants back in. This guy is deliberately trying to become the stereotypical villain in search of wealth and power but struggles with his own genuine good nature.
It doesnt take itself too seriously though.

Three part mini series like a cross between House of Leaves and Silent Hill.

It gets progressively bleak and I want it to work as a show that messes with people watching. There's a point where the sound gets louder and louder (its in the characters head) and I want the audience to turn it down and then have really quiet dialogue that they miss so they have to turn it back up.
>>
>>7510366
Sounds like it could work well
>>
>>7510384
Thanks. I think there may be volume laws but if I can make it as grating as possible then it might work.

I thought about having brightness and contrast tricks too but that might be too obtuse.

The basic idea is that it's Silent Hill set in a house like HoL. Rooms that represent the protagonists past, present, future, desires, regrets and much more.

It is probably an impossibility that it will get picked up but it's good practice if nothing else. Plus its quite cathartic because its !taking me address some of my own flaws.

To those who have actually seen a story through to the end: How do you do it?

Whenever I try to write something, It takes me around 2 hours to write around words, which leads to me feeling exhausted and thus leads to me dropping the story.

What do I do?

Guy writing the miniseries here.

I limit myself to forty minutes a day. I have a coffee break where i sitin silence and if I feel like I have more to do I'll do it. If not I'll carry on tomorrow. This stops me from getting lethargic. The worst thing you can do in any discipline, be it writing, music, painting is to resent it.

If I have some ideas on my break but nothing concrete I'll make a note of it and tackle it the next day when I have a fresh approach to it.

>>7510411

Found out today that my idea has been done before. Sort of.

Short story about a man that leaves for work in the morning. His wife is blind. Somebody breaks in to the house soon after. He sneaks around while the wife is still there so he can steal money. Husband comes home and sees the thief. "Forgot my pho- Oh, good morning, didn't know you were coming over today". Wife has no idea what he's talking about because she is in the room at the same time. It's her brother.

No idea where to go from there though.

I'm interested, anon. I'm working on a novel series based in the Heian period. Having fun doing research? I have so many fucking books and notebooks of information.

Aside from that novel, which is on hiatus until I can make another trip to Okinawa, I'm working on a YA novel about the theosophical society. May be a few novels in the end, the first is mostly based in India. Thankfully, being a YA novel, it requires less research to write.

A story based around the events covering the last few days of a tin-pot dictatorship in not!South America. The story is told as a series of papers that get collected together from the different narrators, including an anti-regime intellectual, foreign journalists, revolutionary, with the generalissimo doing the last couple of chapters.

Each set of papers is meant to build off the last set, building up until the reader has a fairly complete account of how the general came into power, how he exercised, and what may happen to the country once he dies. The idea is to try and show how media and different upbringings influence our perception of events.
