>contrarian pseuds reject it

Well, this is a fine way to show Tommy love. Now he'll never post here again.
>>
>>7496723
>nah man you dont understand he just wrote the rest of the book for a laugh the only bits that matter are these 3 sentences about badgers and ancient postal systems
>>
>>7496719
I asked him about that but he wouldn't give me a straight answer.

>nevermind all thes references to towers and Tasso and Oedipus's own artistic madness, haha. It's all a ruse man. Tommy got us again. Fucking rusemaster Tommy P.
>>
>>7496734
>Oedipus
>Artistic madness

o i am laffin

also hilarious that you assigned meaning at all to the names in TCol49, they're allusory but meaningless and intentionally so you fucking pseud. Try and wrangle a meaning out of Jesus Arrabal or Mike Fallopian. There is none. You are as dumb as Oedipa, vainly searching for some secret meaning and imagining your own dots instead of connecting the ones that actually exist.
>>
Good on you OP
Torquato Tasso posters make me mad as fuck
I hate that I share a board with people that seek to reduce literature like this. It's not the love of the text it's about having little tidbits of "knowledge" to feel superior to others

Reread the end of the first chapter. It's obviously on purpose. There's tons of other interesting shit in the novel besides that.

Check out Shannon's Mathematical Theory of Communication, it's another key to the story.

>>7496758
Damn. I never thought I'd see the day come when my /lit/, the /lit/ I've come to love, would betray TeePee, who posted the key to his novel here. He trusted us. He stumbled upon this sanctuary when researching BL. He probably smiled a little and thought, "hey, finally. A place I can talk about my work safely. Maybe I'll let them in on a little secret..."

How do we repay him? With a snarling, self-righteous denial.

You both make my stomach upset. I implore you to revisit TCoL49 and search inside yourselves for a little humanity and a little respect. He deserves it.
>>
>>7496782
>my /lit/
>TeePee
god id like to kick the shit out of you
I bet you get all your opinions from 4chan and I bet you think of yourself as an "elitist". I bet Gravity's Rainbow was the first book your read since Blood Meridian and you just love telling people your favorite band is Death Grips

Casually mentioning you spoke to Pynchon. What do you think we were born yesterday?
>>
>>7496804
Hi, my name is Paul Anderson, I'm a filmmaker and I had the pleasure of speaking to Pynchon.

While I do consider myself to be a bit of an e/lit/ist, I assure you that I do not obtain all of my opinions from 4chan. I spend most of my leisurely research in the public library or in the newspaper archives. I spend minimal time on the Internet, for I prefer to spend my afternoons nose-deep in a novel, preferably pomo, completely oblivious to the time. I read a great deal of Barthelme, Hawkes, Gaddis and Pynchon, and I believe myself more than suited to discuss any of their works at length, especially TCoL49. It's one of Bloom's favorite novellas, after all.
>>
>>7496808

Hey Paul, Boogie Nights was "the shit" ("the shit" means amazing where I'm from). One of my favorite movies of all time.

You should make more movies like that.
>>
>>7496808

Was the rumor of his cameo in Inherent Vice all bullshit, as I suspected?
>>
>>7496804
Huh? What do you mean? Lots of people talk to him. We both live in New York, and I see him fairly frequently. He's not the recluse he's made out to be. He simply doesn't like media attention.

when they think they're a writer
>>
>>7496834

That's cool. I guess I just assumed if he were so afraid of media scrutiny, he would never use his own name when he was interacting with the general public. It'd be pretty hard to recognize him now that he's 78. Way I see it, the price of an actual photo of him would be way more valuable to a person going through some hard times than protecting his personal privacy. Although I may be overestimating the tabloid value of someone only considered to be one of the greatest living writers. In which case, literature probably really is dead.

Come on man, is not like the Torquato Tasso theory is the only thing in the book, it's just an answer that you can find if you dig deep enough for a closure about Trystero being real or fake and Oedipa being crazy or sane, you can't deny the facts, you can't deny that Pynchon, a man who writes about conspiracies in each one of his books, wouldn't do something like this

That being said, let's discuss the Pet Sounds backwards theory
>>
>>7496719
anyone trying to "solve" this book is the same kind of person who says, "why didn't they just use the Eagles to fly the ring to mordor?" at parties and doesn't understand why he remains virginal.

What publisher is that? The cover makes me uncomfortable.
>>

The point of the book is that there is no closure, or that the closure is in never knowing, and the more you think you know the less you actually know (hence pinecone with his Entropy themes, which is quite literally a part in the book) trying to have an answer completely defeats the purpose and ruins it

Anyone who writes is a writer you. epin memelord.
>>
>>7498571
Exactly. This is neatly enclosed in the scene with Maxwell's Demon. If it worked, the demon would pull order out of chaos and signal out of noise. It is exactly the kind of free lunch Oedipa is looking for. She wants to be able to impose some kind of coherent schema on the all the information she has about WASTE. That's why she asks if the Demon only exists because of the metaphor between informational and thermodynamic entropy -- if it's just an ad hoc convenience, it doesn't give her the epistemological reassurance she wants. Of course, the Demon doesn't work and Oedipa GTFO's. You can't just magically pull signal out of noise.

Well played.

Why isn't this ever mentioned when talking about the torquato tasso thing? I think it pretty much establishes the theory as canon.

You're not the real PTA. He would never use a comma to link two independent clauses.
