Computer science is a natural filtering system for the meek dullards of society. No wonder the heavily autistic excel at it.

It's not really shocking everyone see's it as just as a career path for shut ins an nothing more. Enjoy nothing but dry technical books lol.
>>
>>7481869
I think that the same applies to those who read fiction. Only the dullards do it.
>>

>le memes
Are you sure you don't read technical books since you seem pretty autistic yourself.
>>
>>7481897

Am i wrong? Think about it.

Doughy, passive, nerd culture consuming men see it as an easy route to sitting a computer all day, they read up on fitness to compensate but it's too late, sooner or later they realize they are more interested in the science-lite idea of programming than the dull, dull process of it all.

I say let those naturally talented at it (autistic, aspergers) excel in it and try to ensure those who "like comics and video games so i must like computers too, lol" find a more stimulating career path and maybe they wont end up so dull and fried.

No "we" don't. That's just a real life meme.
>>
>>7482029
oh god i hate those kind of nerd culture faggots who think because they watch star wars and japanese cartoons have some aptitude for computer science and software development...if you had any intelligence you wouldn't be able to watch hours and hours of mind numbing cartoons...sorry, you're just stupid.
>>
>>7482122

Why are you lumping engineers and doctors in with those who study compsci?

look at the wealth of literature surrounding medicine, for one.

The kids that aren't naturally good at programming, but are still interested in that stuff should do Engineering or Medicine.

We also need more linguists, language teachers, and Philosophers.

Is it ok to major in computer science if I'm a genius but severely crippled by the kind of mental illness that has me talking to voices in my head? Because with my handicap it's the hardest field I can make easy work out of.

The thing is, you still need to learn calc 2 in order to be even semi good at software engineering.
Sure you could just become a curry nigger and write spaghetti code, but you'll never be well respected in the programming community.

>>7482446
Do non-software engineers only need Calc 2?

>Giving a fuck about society
>Still thinking of duty as a valid concept
>Believing that people care about who you are and what you do
>2015

No offense, but most people don't give a single flying fuck about you. To the majority, you're the tool that delivers apps. To your boss, and probably to your future wife, you're the tool that delivers money. To your parents, you're the tool that delivers them reputation (since you speak duty, I presume that you're middle class, and everyone in the middle class like to see their progeny as excelling). To your friends, you're the tool that delivers them from loneliness.
No one - absolutely no one - care about you in society. Society uses you like a whore, and when there's no juice left you're discarded to rot in some home.
Have a nice life.
>>
>>7482446
>The thing is, you still need to learn calc 2 in order to be even semi good at software engineering.
why? u use series and shit in software? u can just skip over a few derivations in your babby algo course and realistically i don't think it would be a big deal. im math not cs though so maybe i'm making shit up.

Computer science is a good major for motivated students with an interest in the subject.

You have might have schizophrenia m8. It's nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. You should tell whoever you are closest to that you talk to voices in your head. They can help you so that talking to voices in your head won't stop you from studying computer science or anything else.
>>
>>7481826
Neuromancer basically invented the metaphors that we use to describe the Internet and virtual reality today. It's a fun book to read to.
>>

Computer Science is basically Math

and Math is basically analytic philosophy

and philosophy is all you fucks talk about

but no, keep going with your "omg computers are evil, and everyone who studies them are dullards"

computers are a huge human development, and at some point they are going to be the crux of a novel, get over yourselves

I'm a natural computer scientist and actually planning on quitting programming to be able to do something political instead, specifically on the front of raging radical feminism.

Also see Richard Stallman.

>>7482156
No, SICP teaches fundamental concepts of CS, it will literally never be deprecated. Like Principia Mathematica.

>>7483246
This desu.

>>7482328
Wow, I didn't know that people who literally talk to voices in their head could still intelligibly talk and take part in discussions and go to a university at all...
>>
>>7481826
Cryptonomicon? I still need to read it. If I'm not mistaken, this work actually has some bearing on real life in the sense that everyone is worried about increasing levels of spying and cybercrime. Cryptology and hacking expertise will only become more important over time and this stuff is never going away. In comparison, Neuromancer will just be a wacky story about cyborg chicks and cheeky AI.

>SEL
The reason SEL is top tier is because of philosophy. Rest is made up of random references to random computer shit. If you ever come on here and bring up SEL as your ace in the hole, to say "see! /g/ can be patrician too," then the universe will collapse from sheer irony.
>>
>>7485115
SEL?
>>
>>7484933
>Wow, I didn't know that people who literally talk to voices in their head could still intelligibly talk and take part in discussions and go to a university at all...
There's a theory that everyone in the ancient era was some type of schizoid.
>>

>Like Principia Mathematica.
>This, and maybe Godel, Escher, Bach?

Did you even read the latter? Principia Mathematica was deprecated by Gödel.
>>
>>7487342
I think he's referring to Newton's and not to Russell's.
>>
>>7487376
Newton's was deprecated by Einstein.
>>
>>7487378
Einstein provided a more refined product but Newton's mechanics are still used.
What is >>7482156 deprecated by?
>>
>>7487382
You're not correct. Thinking that will get you nowhere.

It's still young, so nothing yet, but it will be.
>>

Serial Experiments Lain.

There are lots of thrillers that use IT/CompSci in an informed way beyond Star Trek technobabble.

I particularly liked Daemon and Freedom Inc. Cyberdelic wet dreams about how hackers could use the Internet to create a worldwide utopia and a neat edgelord time capsule of the 2000s.

I'm writing it as we speak. It's about a teenage girl who accidently solves the "P vs. NP" problem. Lisbeth salander minus the rape. A little punky but not edgy. She smokes weed and listens to Einstürzende Neubauten
