A La Recherche du benis perdu: du benis de chez Swann. It's a classic. The women love it.

The Metamorphosis, by Kafka.
>As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in a giant well-hung Nigger with a big penis and a great endowment.

A.) That's sad
B. -Z.) Gone With the Wind and Les Miserables are so high because they saw the films. The books are huge and the good reads community would probably not read them if that list adequately represents their literary interests.

>tfw reading Les Miserables right now
>tfw did see the 2012 movie first

But do you think the Goodreads audience watched a 4-hour long movie from 1939 that has happy slaves in it?

I don't know but you have to admit those choices came out of nowhere. It's more likely they saw the film than read the novel.

I used to talk about this novel all the time with my only girl friend who's into literature. Then she finally read it and said she didn't "get it". "There are some beautiful sentences here and there but I'm not really interested in reading about a neurotic boy's small life."

true. my gf told me she loved reading, come to find out it is all true crime stories (which is OK, they are bredy gud for leisure reading) and Nicholas Sparks-type overly sentimental stuff (which is not OK and hurts my heart). she got into the first chapter of Portrait on my Kindle one time and asked me the next day, very confused, what Joyce was on about.

Well what in the fuck made you think that she'd enjoy jumping right into Joyce if she's reading true crime and feelsy momma books? I have the feeling that you just wanted to subtly say: 'Wuhuhu, I read much fancier stuff than you~~'

I didn't ask her to jump into Joyce, she got bored and read him while I was asleep. since I explained who he was though, anytime I make fun of her for reading momma fiction, I can soften the blow by making a long windy fart joke that she now gets. I really don't mind that she isn't into lit, because she is fun to discuss literature with anyway.
