That Censored for Confucious book. When you open it on calibre, the title page and index / table of content looks PDF-y, but everything else looks like a regular ebook. Is that normal? Will it glitch the EReader if i put it on? Ive had that happen before.
>>7484144
>When you open it on calibre, the title page and index / table of content looks PDF-y, but everything else looks like a regular ebook. Is that normal?
Usually just means that the ebook is fan-made, and the person doing the OCR work felt like leaving the original inner cover &/or couldn't be bothered to do the formatting work on these specific pages.
"looks PDF-y" just means that they're images inserted in the file, it's not a different format or anything. Unless your reader is some now forgotten old thing that can't display images, the worst that can happen is them being cut-up and having to go through several bits or blank pages before the text. Even then you can navigate up to the actual first page on Calibre, maybe embed metadata, and then transfer it to your reader, which will load from that page on.
Requesting, or more precisely, begging anyone here for a eBook version of Hegel's History of Philosophy. The translation up at marxists.org is so full of typos it's making me insane.

No, I think you mixed it with the Philosophy of History, which is a different book altogether. Those lectures can only be found at private trackers I guess.
>>7484405
Thank you for clearing that up, thats fine then. I was just cautious because some times theyre glitched and they screw up the whole EReader when you add a glitched book. So usually what i do is navigate through the book on calibre, see that everything loads fine, etc. But those images confused me. Thanks!

Isn't there some website where you can get this stuff without having to ask for it in this thread? For music you can go to websites like what.cd or soulseek, soulseek and what.cd actually have some books. They don't have like, a really big selection of books though. I am mostly looking for erotic fiction of the specific fetish I like, it would be nice if there was a website where I could just download whatever books I want. Idk if there's like a p2p file sharing program that has whatever I want on it or not. I hate how all this fuck is on amazon and you have to pay for every single one of them.

And so, having picked myself back up from convulsing on the floor and settled again at the keyboard, and just for that one alone, I wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Do any scans of this critical edition exist out there? (ISBN-10: 0393972836)
I just got a kindle for Christmas. Can I get a brief explanation on how these work? It looks like you guys are torrenting and then connecting your kindle to your computer? What is the preferred format? What is the most effective way to getfreebooks?
>>7503963
Kindle only reads .mobi. Connect it to your computer, transfer the files on it as you would with a hard drive. You can keep it offline forever once you've unlocked the collections by synch-ing to amazon servers the first time. Books you'll get off everywhere, torrents, search engines... main DDL database is gen.lib.rus.ec . Download calibre to convert epubs to mobi. Epubs is the most common ebook format around. You can read PDFs but they're not optimal for ereader devices. Converting PDFs doesn't work very well because they aren't uninterrupted text.
Lurk.

Thank you.
>>7504022
If you look on kat or tpb for kindle or ebook collections, you'll find torrents that have thousands of them.
There's also OP's link, libgen -as the other anon said-, and gutenberg. Alternatively, you can use soulseek.
Enjoy it man, ebooks are the best thing ever.
Bumping for the unfulfilled requests.
>>7505049
There are some books here that either someone actually takes the trouble to scan them and upload it or their respective requests will go by unfulfilled forever.
I'm looking for Out - Natsuo Kirino in either epub or mobi form. Anyone can help me out? Not on libgen

(it's on mobilism btw, which can be a good source for mainstream stuff, and is indexed by search engines afaik)
PLEASE KEEP SEEDING THE TORRENT! I AM AT 77%!

Anyone have a clean scan of a modern edition of The Anatomy of Melancholy (pref. with notes)? Everything I've found so far (a lot) is shit
Let me try this. I'm writing a paper on contemporary post-genre works and I'm having trouble in finding a couple of reference texts. Already tried the usual channels, maybe someone here has them. In particular I'm looking for
- ParaSpheres (Keegan and Morrison, Omnidawn)
- Transrealist fiction (Broderick, Praeger) or possibly Unleashing the Strange (also by Broderick)
I don't expect anyone to have them but if you could point me to some other resource for searching textbooks (that isn't libgen, already tried that) it would be great.

I like to at least pretend I understand things like postmodernism, but this one truly has me stumped.
What in the frig is post-genre? Was Žižek caught gatecrash rampaging literary conferences again?
>>7506927
Basically it's stuff that doesn't fit neatly in a genre box and has some literary merit.
ParaSpheres authors literally said "there are three kinds of fiction: good realistic stuff, shitty escapist stuff, and things that are not realistic but are good and thus we have to put in another box".
It's not as bad as it sounds and it ties into some observation on post (and post-post) modernist literature in general. But it's impossible to find anything on this side of the pond.
>>7507043
>It's not as bad as it sounds
That can't be hard
>>7507043
>The problem is not with the material, that it is not being read. The problem is with the classification system.
Not that you are saying exactly that, but I did do a quick glance over of the subject on my own.
Sounds like a revolt against the shelf space economy of old, in favor of he new pursuit of mind share.
Whatever. The old Dewey Decimal or even the Library of Congress classification systems still do it for me. The brick and mortar publishers will continue calling it as they see it for everything recent, all of which I lump into the "not worth the money" category.
Goodreads already ran over everything with pre-categorized group searches like "Authors I will never read again," "Reptilian Vampire Erotica for Anarchist Libertarians," and so on and so on. The future is in the hands of the consumers who forge their own paths to finding literary masterpieces.
>>7507140
That is a good observation, and it's undoubtable that there are some clear commercial considerations playing into the matter.
On the other hand, the dissolution of genre barriers has been a recurring theme in some post-modern criticism (McHale and others). And it also has ties with the never-ending debate on the dignity of genre fiction that's been going on since Gernsback.
What I find interesting here, and that's the reason I'm studying it, is that it's still a division in fieri, and there are several voices that try to claim the (cultural? artistic?) space for themselves or for authors they like.
I'll gladly open a thread in the future, but for now I still need help in finding those books.
If you're on linux, you can download the whole archive (including all else) with

I just got a Kindle for xmas, wasn't really expecting one but now that I have it I might as well use it.
I've got a quick question about 'pirating' books for the Kindle, though. Is there any way to get proper covers for the menus and the 'online' information (such as goodreads reviews, highlights, time to read, etc.) for them? My autism is making me want to just waste money on purchasing them just so I have a tidy list of proper front covers on the menus.
Also, if anyone has any military-related books (memoirs, historical, etc.) I'd greatly appreciate it. Viper Pilot, for example.

>>7508550
ffs you are reading a book, not a cover
also you'll probably end up with hundreds of books on it so it'll get messy anyway
and you can switch to list view, it's better altogether
>>7507504
Since we're here... I found Transrealist Fiction on Soulseek but the download was in a series of single-page html files. Apparently the text inside is right though. Is there a simple way to convert it into a reasonable format?
>>7508704
Can I piggyback of that question.
If Im downloading Epubs from here forfreeand converting them with Calibre and all that shit, is it safer to have my Kindle permanently disconnected from wifi?
Does Amazon do random checks on people and verify whether their books are properly purchased? I dont want them bricking my Kindle.
pls respond
>>7508550
Nice, you'll love the kindle. I highly recommend installing calibre and managing your book colection in it. You can modify its metadata and make it as nice as you want. You can also download the covers from there.
>>7508742
the internet police are running the backtrace right now, you dun goofed anon.
Honestly I don't think amazon has the authority or the means or even the inclination to try and catch people who dont properly purchase books. I may be wrong but I think amazon would rather try to use the time and effort and money on selling and advertising than policing kindles.
>>7508770
Alright man, but Im keeping my tin-foil hat on.
>>7508705
html often converts just fine to epub/mobi since that's the format they're pretty much based on (only characters from special fonts and size-dependent things like tables might end up non-optimal). Use Calibre.
>>7508742
No, of course not. You should however keep it offline because that uses up battery and, you're not going to buy anything from them, are you?
>>7508764
Was away from the thread for a while. Already found out about Calibre, and converted a couple of epubs with it and they're now readable on the Kindle.
Question is (sorry, I don't think it's related to the thread but I'm asking anyway), do you need to copy over anything other than the .mobi file to the Kindle? I can get the book to show up, but the front cover is still not showing up, even though it displays it in Calibre, and if I swipe backwards from the first page, it shows the front cover there (even if I change it to a custom one in Calibre, and I swipe backwards in the Kindle, the front cover is changed correspondingly (meaning it's receiving the update), but the cover still won't show up in the library/main menu.
What am I doing wrong? This is really irking me and I'm not going to start reading until it's sorted.
Also, being a professional shitposter, my reading speed is pretty decent, how long should it take me per book (say a 300pg book on average, no idea what an average book is. I don't think I've ever read a book, outside of Holes/Mice and Men.)
>>7508991
Nevermind, seem to have sorted it.
Sending the items to my kindle via the application, rather than dragging and dropping manually, seems to give them the proper covers.
