define "wank fest"
>if it means what i think it means, pic related
>>7444573
a "wank fest" can be defined as a book that seems to be typed with one hand while the author jacks himself off with the other
>>7444566
fug I've been reading this shit for months
I'm in the last 20% or so and it's finally starting to get good
How so OP? Underworld is a pretty restrained work.
>>7444573
This is wank fest in both meanings. Even bigger than what OP's posted, in his understanding, too.
Also Ulysses is a pretty bighehewank fest.
i am convinced i was the first person to ever actually finish this mess because if anybody else had it would not be acclaimed
literally just a coffee table book for drug dealers in the 70s
What's DeLillo's best work?
I've already read White Noise (loved it) and Cosmopolis (hated it).
>>7444638
Underworld, Ratner's Star, The Names
>>7444638
white noise is the best
I liked mao II a lot
underworld is well-loved, though apparently a wank-fest
the rest isnt worth the time
cosmopolis is probably the worst, btw
>>7444646
>the rest isnt worth the time
>libra
>the names
>point omega
>americana
>great jones street
>ratner's star
>'the rest isnt worth the time'
>somehow white noise is
>>7444657
yep, that's right
maybe trying making a point next time you make a point
>>7444681
The 'point' is those are all great books and White Noise is an insignificant potboiler.
>>7444716
all those are pretty good books, and white noise is a masterpiece
>>7444716
white noise is insignificant shit along with the rest of his crap
>>7444657BEANER?
>>7444638
I haven't read enough to discern his best work, but I highly recommend Libra.
>>7444759
>"And how do you handle meaning in your work?"
>"B-beaner...?"
>"Meaning, Mr. Delillo."
>"BEANER?"
>>7444638
libra and underworld
DeLillo is a fantastic author. Lit just can't enjoy his writing because he doesn't sperg out like DFW. His sense of restraint goes over the heads of those who just wana plow through books and then rank them from best to worst
>>7445751
No, it's just one guy who repeatedly shills that Delillo is bad.
He posts in every thread.
>>7444581
my diary then desu
>>7445813
>his diary is a wankfest
pleb
How do you say his name?
Duh-lil-lo
With the lil like Lil Wayne and the lo like "Lowes"
??
>>7445861
Deh-li-low
"li" as in lit
I wouldn't say wank fest, it was just underwhelming.
>>7445861
Dedildo
>>7446154
say that to my face, not online, and see what happens
it rhymes with "willow" senpai
>>7445844
no one cares n00b
>>7444638
white noise is arguably the best because it's the most accessible. The names is also pretty good. But a lot of his other works, including underworld and mao II seem to sacrifice plot for the sake of language
>>7444638
White Noise
The Body Artist
Cosmopolis
>>7446177
>The names is also pretty good. But a lot of his other works, including underworld and mao II seem to sacrifice plot for the sake of language
The Names is the book that sacrifices plot for the sake of language the most. It's about a creepy language cult and some white people chilling in Greece.
Underworld is heavy on plot, but it's told backwards. It's the story of the baseball and one guy's life told backwards to the point wherehe kills a guy who maybe wanted to die.
Mao II doesn't need a plot and ends with perfect ambiguity. Where is Mao's glorious return? Is that it for Bill Gray?
>>7444612
I finished it, and then started a thread on here about it. It got a mostly positive response, and only two guys came into the thread to shitpost.
>>7445861
I always read it as if the double l's had a spanish pronunciation
deh-lee-oh
