What is his best book? I've never read any Dickens and want to read something by him.
The great train robbery

Bleak House, David Copperfield, or Pickwick Papers
I really like all his stuff regardless. Got me into reading. :)

i like how he not so subtly gives his influences in david copperfield,
From that blessed little room, Roderick Random, Peregrine Pickle, Humphrey Clinker, Tom Jones, the Vicar of Wakefield, Don Quixote, Gil Blas, and Robinson Crusoe, came out, a glorious host, to keep me company."
David Copperfield.
It was Tolstoy's favourite novel.
The Pickwick Papers is the easiest transition into Dickens. In fact any early Dickens is a good start in my opinion, but Pickwick Papers is what got me hooked. Late Dickens is too depressing and bleak to dive into at first

This guy can't seem to write anything less than 1500 pages long -- a clear sign that you should avoid like a plague. Just read A Christmas Carol to see what he's about (because they're all the same fucking pathetic moralizing crap) and then be done with it. CANCER. CANCER. CANCER. Thanks Christians!!
