What are some good novels set in feudal Japan? Preferably written by a Japanese person, since I've tried reading white folks writing in that setting and it just sounds forced. Though I've heard Shogun is very good. Any recommendations? And yes, I know "feudal Japan" covers 2000 years and about a dozen different actual time periods, but you know what I mean. Pre-Meiji, basically. Can certainly have fantasy elements, since I'm looking for something with a folktale quality to it, something timeless.
Also, is Musashi any good?
Just bumping with some Japanese fox porn.

I tried so hard with the first book, I just could not get into it. One of the very few times I returned a book from where I bought it.

Don't read Japanese stuff. It'll make you A FUCKING SLUT BURN IN HELL MIYAKO RRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE
I liked Clavell's Shogun.
Tale of the Genji is a classic.
Book of Five Rings is short. I think the military concepts are pretty basic.

I remember musashi being the best game for ps1 ever.
Shogun is fantastic

I like the short stories of saikaku Ihara. He was one of the ukiyou-zoshi writers during the 18th century.
Chikamatsu is also pretty good.

This here was my answer. I'd read Musashi first to get a feel for the style. Taiko is a bit more hard to follow given the sheer number of individuals in the book. Both are absolutely fantastic reads though.

Yes on Musashi.

There is no beauty that hath not strangeness within its shape. But, this perhaps a bit too strange.

>le tropes
desu while your post is probably an exception, the vast majority of the time you would be better served by being more specific than the contemporary usage of trope being literary or narrative ... thing.
