I liked Anthem, Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged in that order, but don't bother with any of them. If you want to get an impression of her fiction, read the draft of her play/novel "Ideal", which was just published recently.
I think her philosophical prose, though, is excellent, and she's very good in interviews, even though her philosophy itself is bullshit.
She's an interesting character, and worth exploring for that reason, but there's not much reason or pleasure to reading her books.

Yes. It was instrumental in teaching me that plasmids are the future and lighthouses are the gateways to alternate worlds where waifus are locked up by giant birds in the sky by order of an old version of the guy who comes to rescue her. I don't know how, but it did.
It's not by any means a bad book
It's long and boring and very flat but I think that her aesthetic has something to it that's underrated and worth a closer look. I don't really care about morals and half baked philosophies in fiction so I'm apathetic to hers.

You should definitely read The Fountainhead FIRST.
And if you don't like that, skip Atlas Shrugged, but DO still read We The Living, which I think is her best novel and is very different from her other fiction.
And just keep in mind, the vast overwhelming majority of her detractors hate her because they disagree with her philosophy. Don't listen to any of it until you've read her stuff for yourself. Make up your own damned mind.

Chapter 2 is very beautiful. The rest is pretty awful. Just read his speech, and you'll get everything there is to know.

Even though this is likely b8, yes, it is a good book. Sure, the prose is dull and the characters siff, but the theme of individualism is one that cannot be missed. Unlike a lot of people, I actually enjoyed the story and plot. A lot of her largest critics have either never read her, or have and misunderstood/oversimplified/perverted her arguments beyond any reasonable justification. A lot of the people on this board who have read her and even claim to be Rand supporters often misunderstand her ideas.
Either way, I think Rand would want you to read it for yourself and decide on your own whether or not it is a "good" book. It was well worth the read.
