>is there a way to buy cheap books?
Depends where you are, obviously. I have pretty good charity bookshops near me that are cheaper than (legal) e-books. But for cost-effectiveness you obviously can't beat a library, assuming you have a decent one near you.

e readers are awesome but they take some getting used to. I have a kindle touch and I've had it for a few years. it's nice and i'll replace it when it dies. with that said, I still prefer physical copies.
if you like to read "the classics" then many are free on Gutenberg dot org. then definitely get an ereader and save $$$.
more contemporary /lit/ you'll either have to pirate or buy ebooks.
you can always visit your local library. online sites like amazon will have used copies for like $1 but you pay 3-4 in shipping. I recommend you support your local used book stores/libraries first and then shop online if you can't find it.
online retailers and big chains are always my last option.

Dostoevsky is a must. Very age appropriate too, I think.
