Is haruhi a meme series? I read the entire first book and i did not enjoy a single page of it. It was written as though it was a script for an anime the author hoped would happen.

Now Oregairu on the other hand had eightman, and decent writing

m8, all light novels are supposed to read like anime, otherwise they'd be treated like real novels that have shots at winning awards in Japoland.
>>
>>7401678
I know, I know. But haruhi just doesn't have anything going for it, there's no substance or even attempts at fake substance

>m8, all light novels are supposed to read like anime, otherwise they'd be treated like real novels that have shots at winning awards in Japoland.
Purple Qualia won a literary award. Kino no Tabi is well respected. Jintai's last volume was nominated for best sci-fi novel of 2015. Light Novels may have specific writing styles but some of them do have well-written prose (I'm dichotomizing between plot and writing here). Sakaki is a good example as he has written so much, his prose naturally reached a decent level as time passed. And one would actually be surprised at SAO's writing, but you plebs who only care about deep meaning in your novels wouldn't understand. Have fun with unimaginative hacks like Murakami though. I'll have fun with talented writers who just happen to be in the LN medium.

>Purple Qualia

The manga was great, has the book been translated?
>>
>>7401860
Oh, I forgot: Gosick's writer also won (and was nominated for) literary awards.
>>
>>7401864
Not yet, I believe. I don't think anyone will bother, it's not that famous in the west. Kinda like Iriya no Sora and others; famous among japanese LN readers, ignored by westerners.

I read this this year. It was actually pretty good in a "don't expect anything just want to read Chinese cartoons" kind of way.
>>
Index is LN of the year every year.
MC is bad ass, and doesn't give a fuck.
>dodges bullets
>gives grand speeches
>makes all the ladies want the wee wee
>punches cute girls
>punches everyone
>probably has a huge dick
>>

Bought all the Saekano volumes so that, probably getting Oregairu, Alderamin and Shuumatsu later.
>>
All LNs are shit,

Expect for Maria.

>It was written as though it was a script for an anime the author hoped would happen.
And it happenned.

I liked the fourth book.
The rest of them are ok. They're a light reading for a summer afternoon, entertaining and simple.

>It was written as though it was a script for an anime the author hoped would happen.
Most LN anime adaptations are paid for by the publisher to boost LN sales.
This is why so many stop at one season and lead nowhere.

I've been enjoying "The Devil is a Part-Timer" and "A Certain Magical Index" as they have been coming out. Casually been picking up the "Log Horizon" novels too, they aren't terrible. Still yet to see if the DURARARA novels are up to snuff.

Of the light novels I've read before though, I'd say my favorites would have to be "Kizumonogatari" (which is getting an official English release next month), and "Welcome to the NHK", which was a joy to read.

Oh? Which themes central to understanding the human condition and the nature of existence are explored by Index?

'Words what are written in a book' does not equal literature.

I've bought Spice & Wolf lately but there doesn't seem to be any good Light Novels available in English apart from harem stuff, Vampire Hunter D and Guin Saga have caught my eye, Guin seems like it would be a risky investment considering only 5 out of 100 or so have been translated into English.

Yes, thank you for illustrating my point. You have two other boards with likeminded folk to discuss LN garbage with.

Why this thread hasn't been laughed off /lit/ yet is a mystery

>literature is only about understanding the human condition and the nature of existence
Because of this is obvious that /lit/ was a mistake.

>Inside there were a couple of large cities along with countless small scale towns and villages, forests and plains, and even lakes.
Only one stairway linked each floor to another, and they existed in dungeons where large numbers of monsters roamed; so discovering and getting through was no easy matter. However, once someone made a breakthrough and arrived at a city of the upper floor, the <Teleport Gates> there and of every cities in the lower floors would be connected making it possible for anyone to move freely through these levels.

No Game No Life is the only currentlyongoing thing I've felt any desire to look into and it's actually remarkably deep, if very very snide

Does anyone know where to find translations for anything though? I mean yes I know Baka-Tsuki but they don't have Chaika or Kyouran Kazoku Nikki among others. Also the one person who was translating Zaregoto seems to have given up.

>>7401860
Nisioisin's prose in Zaregoto is honestly brilliant and has influenced me as a writer.

>>7403921
well, Zaregoto explores the nature of "genius", the value of human existence, ennui, utopia, human relationships, and the tragic attempts and failures of desire to transcend nonconceptual differences, to name JUST a few

Index seemed to be going for something about magic, science and belief systems but I dropped it after the first volume cause I just got sick of how it dragged everything out

>Asuna continued to scream as she continued to vigorously shake her head while her body shook. Although I briefly wondered if it hurt, I was no longer able to stop my hips from moving as my penis continued to plunge into Asuna's deepest parts with a wet slapping noise. "Ha... Ah... Ah—!" Eventually my penis pushed all the way into the root of Asuna's vagina. While she was the woman whom I knew the best and loved the most, the crazy thought that I was deep inside Aincrad's top idol at this moment was spinning around my mind, making me go crazy.

>A sticky sound was coming from the slit that was being pierced by my penis.

>Asuna threw her body back while drawing out the last part of her sentence as she violently convulsed two, three times. Her breasts which were sticking out in front of her danced in time with those motions.

>Every time I stirred up Asuna's insides, our overflowing juices would fly about as the place of our joining melted in endless heat. "Aah...amazing, amazing..." Her bouncing breasts also sent large amounts of sweat flying about.

>I could feel my hot sperm gushing deep into Asuna as she trembled in yet another climax. Two years worth of semen made a glopping noise as it flowed endlessly into Asuna. Every time my penis twitched, fireworks would go off in my head.
>glopping noise

it's still better than a lot of sex scenes in literary fiction, see any Bad Sex In Fiction Award winner

at least this guy isn't afraid to name body parts or talk about the gross aspects

on the other hand what's embarrassing is the amount of emphasis on features like the sound or the visual of the bouncing breasts that would be most relevant to someone not actually experiencing it but watching from outside - i.e. it's not even porn, it's narration OF porn

also it sounds like Kirito is terrible and unimaginative at sex
>>
>>7404089
>>7404116
also the fact that the thought is what gets him off the most, not what he's actually feeling or doing

he sounds like a fuckboy desu

>Let me relate an old story.

>Somewhere, there was one, just one boy that was beyond saving. He was a boy that had a terribly twisted personality and relied on a brutally broken sense of valuation to let his trail of nonsense carry him through life.

>Somewhere, there was one, just one girl that was beyond saving. She was a girl that had a terribly honest personality and relied on a brutally correct sense of valuation to smile and innocently live.

>Normally, that would be the end of this story. The boy would live a short, slightly unfortunate and slightly tragic life, and the girl would live a short, slightly blessed and slightly elegant life. The world in which the boy lived and the world in which the girl lived were completely different places, after all.

>However, contrary to any reason, the boy met the girl, and the girl met the boy. It can genuinely be asked who and for what purpose caused this to happen. What sort of whim, what sort of consideration caused him and the girl to meet. It would be cruel to both the boy and the girl to chalk it up as mere coincidence or destiny or a miracle.

>Many humans died.

>Many inhumans died.

>The boy died a lot.

>The girl also died a lot.

>The boy killed a lot.

>The girl did not kill anyone.

>And then, unable to handle the burden of sin any longer, unable to carry the weight of punishment any longer, the boy escaped, alone.

Any novels coming out in English soon that I should consider picking up? I know Kizu comes out next month and Legend of the Galactic Heroes will become available next year in English.
