basically my mom didnt give a shit about me and dad was always at work, so all i did through age 0-20 was stare at the walls / computer screen and rot.
now every time i pick a book i either get too tired or annoyed because my lack of concentration. ive been forcing myself to read for 3 years now, and i still read slow as fuck with loads of breaks. (1 small book might take a month or two)
i dont have ADHD because i can sit at class and listen for 5 hours straight, but when it comes to books and educating myself, instead of pleasing the teacher - my brain just tells me to gtfo,
so how do i reprogram myself from pleb mentality to a book reader?
excuse me for retard language, its bcos i cant read

Just fucking sit down and read stuff that you think you'll care about. Some of the really good stuff, like Dostoevsky or Camus. Aim for reading at about 30 pages an hour. Make sure you do it for a couple of hours a day minimum. Soon enough it should absorb your imagination enough that you realize you need to know more about Raskalnikov's mind and about what happens next. Then you'll be just fine.

You're like me but worse.

Watch films then read then watch films then read, repeat ad infinitum.

Don't worry about reading at a slow pace. Even if it takes you a month to get through 50 pages at least you're making an effort to read.

Try and find books you really enjoy, ones that you don't want to put down. Think about what else you like (movies, games, etc.) and try to find books with a similar tone, theme or style to those. Hopefully that way you'll just naturally start to read more, and faster.

Just pick something you're genuinely interested in reading, and try to read it in a nice quiet place such as a park or a library. If your mind wanders just let it wander and avoid the temptation to browse the internet on your phone (if this is too hard, then leave it at home). Of course you can't be expected to go through a whole novel at once, but you can at least try and make a habit of reading regularly.

Also, your brain is probably too used to springy, non-linear forms of entertainment from too much internet or video games when growing up. If you really want your brain to be able to concentrate and digest text, keep away from those things.

Good job! Go to Notes from Underground next. Then if you have a taste for it, a few other 19th C. Russians, like Fathers and Sons or Anna Karenina. Maybe mix in some dystopian literature, because it fits well thematically -- like Orwell's 1984, Koestler's The Darkness at Noon, Morris's News from Nowhere, or Huxley's Brave New World. Just keep it ticking over.

Just fucking do one at a time. Be strict and don't give up unless it's an unusually bad or painful book.

i cant read without internet, i need the dictionaries and google images to remember the words by objects i see in pics.. or is this unnecessary?
>>
>>7394784
No, two. Fiction and non-fiction. Drop all painful-to-read books and this formula can't go wrong. Consider non-fiction, read things like heavy philosophy, that shit is really stimulating.

i tried reading plato. i end up rereading the same line again and again. is plato worth busting my ass on these texts in speed of 1 dialogue per 3 +- months?
>>
>>7394803
Read the Symposium because it's the easiest and funniest. Maybe the Apology too. But otherwise, try to study Plato at college with a good group of people. It's by far the best way to make progress.
>>
>>7394803
Plato is awful. Try more modern stuff first, like Heidegger or Sartre. I'm pretty sure you're just playing now though. Have fun mate.

im not playing im seriously exhausted and depressed because of this.
did you find plato very difficult too?or is my iq just very low?
>>
>>7394788

It should be unnecessary. I can only conclude that you have a low IQ and that anything above the difficulty of a children's picture book just can't be properly read by you. Sorry. I hope you have other talents and abilities to make you a wonderful human being.

>be a teen
>enjoy reading
>grow up
>hopes_and_dreams.jpg
>drop college
>gf drops you
>attempt 3-4 different works (at every iteration do a more min-wage pleb job)
>do long NEET breaks in between of every job iteration
>try to consume pleb entertainment like tv (buy/sell houses/cars/junk, cooking sweets/risottos/burgers) or games (AAA fps/rpg) or cartoons (umaru-chan is kawaii desu).
>after not so long abovementioned entertainment will disgust you
>spend the nights remembering when life was full of hope
>go in your bookstore/library and take "heavy" books
>sit in your room/reading room of the library
>enjoy that good feeling of your brain that works and think again
>be every day more alone and escape from such miserable reality with patrician literature

good news OP, now you're able to enjoy again reading!
