... was apparently used as a japanese cover for The Stars My Destination. I like it because it's not only over the top, but has nothing to do with the book.

This is a translation of The Canteburry Tales, from Chaucer. It was translated for the Portuguese language. What the translator achieved was a miracle: he at the same time honored the original and recreated the flavor of an original work. It is as if Chaucer was born in our age and was native to a Portuguese language country and, not knowing that he was the original author of the CT, feel in love with them and decided to translate the work. It is really that good.

There was a great verse translation of Hamlet too, published by the same Editors. I sense that verse and specially verse-theater are entering a new period of flourish in Brazil today; let us hope for some kind of minor literary renascence.

I is said that one of the main ways (and often unnoticed way) that lead to the emergence of a new literature is the translation of an ancient and old literature to a new language.

In the Elizabethan era, Latin started to be translated regularly into English: Seneca, Plautus, Terence and Ovid caused a huge impression and impact on the literature of England. However, the creation of a new form of verse by Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey, in his translation of Virgil's Iliad, was the blow that really gave new impetus to the Britannic literature. Surrey created the Blank Verse, and this verse, adopted by the poets of the theater, made possible the appearance and emergence of the glory known as Elizabethan Drama, and, of course, of the possibly greatest poet of all time, Shakespeare.

Wait, Joan Cornella works as an illustrator for Portuguese Penguin?
>>
>>7393882
Actually, yeah, why aren't you reading the original? It's in English, it shouldn't be difficult.
>>
>>7393882
if you speak english well enough to make this post why would you not read it in english? you can read translations for fun after, but read it first in the original language....

It's not a matter of it being a problem, I can read and write in english as it were my first language. I tend to buy and read english editions of english writing authors and sorta make an effort to do the same with french ones but if I find a particular edition that has a slick cover i choose to pick that one up and then download the original. Case in point.

I love the minimalist design. And books from this collection are very cheap and that's great.
