What's the ideology where people want to go back to nature, or they believe that mankind has strayed from its "natural state" and must return there if it is to be happy? Is that called a thing?
>>
>>7392634
It's called Filthy Hippieism.

sounds a bit like what Jean-Jacques Rousseau wrote about the "natural man"
>>
>>7392634
A lot of philosophy can lead you to that because it's just true. We're crowded and dissociated. Living like this is new to us.
>>
faggotry

>>7394776
this is the only right answer

op is clearly referring to rousseau's formulation of the idea and not any others, however similar they might be

for contrast, see hobbes

This.
People say civilization, as we know it, has been around for 1000s of thousand of years so we should be used to it but that's nothing compared to the many 100,000 years we've spent as hunter-gatherers.
>>
>>7394882
You never spent a day as a hunter-gatherer, you feeble-minded ingrate.
>>
>>7394882
Are you of the opinion that hunter-gatherer societies have not developed over that period? Because they did, both sociologically and technologically (and for that matter physiologically). The hunter gatherers of Europe do not equate to the San. Existence as a human is an unnatural and painful state of being, however it is done.
>>
if you are by any chance thinking of something like walden, thoreau was a transcendentalist
>>
>>7394885
Maybe you should actually learn to read posts before you try to do your best impression of some 19th century nobleman, you fuckwit.

>>7394888
Do you think we've developed to handle civilization in just the past few 1000s years when hunter-gatherers had 100s of thousands of years to get used to their lifestyle?

These two are the correct answers.

In literary terms, you're probably wanting to learn about "pastoral." Read Virgil's Eclogues (and Hesoid's Theogony as background). And then for criticism, the three classics are:
- William Empson, Some Versions of Pastoral
- Raymond Williams, The Country and the City
- Annabel Patterson, Pastoral and Ideology: Virgil to Valéry

Good luck, OP. You have much reading ahead!
