What are some literary equivalents to Berserk?

Suicide. Try it.

Shadow of the torturer is the best you're going to get mate.

Thanks. I was thinking of picking up Wolfe next.

McCarthy, check out Blood Meridian.

Are Mozgus and Holden similar?
>>
>>7388852
Wouldn't know, I just watched the anime and didn't really get into the manga that much beyond where it got. The little fairy was too anti-immersive for me.
>>
Joe Abercrombie shit
>>
Beowulf was an inspiration.
>>

Honestly, /lit/, looked at objectiely - Is the story of Berserk good literature, or at least interesting literature? While the earlier chapters are rough, I certainly get a developed epic-fantasy feeling when I pick this up. And the later art is gorgeous, with characters who are surprisingly human for a man I assume to be autistic and into loli-piss.
>>
>>7389542
From what I remember of the anime, it had some nice fatalist elements.

Id say anything past when he gets the armor and starts killing gods and then goes on a long boat ride is total garbage and writers block, but the early years and the first few arcs of his travels are really good stuff that probably comes close to "better genre lit"

Simplicius Simplicissimus, a semi-autobiographical picaresque novel set during the Thirty Years war kind of reminded me of Berserk in terms of setting.

bump....

Thank you for this recommendation.

Already read it but thanks.

And thanks for bumping the thread.

I felt repulsed by the fairy too, but trust me the manga is infinitely better than the series, which I find horrible after reading the manga.
>>
>>7391038
No problem friend. Interesting to see comparisons drawn between what we see as literature to more popular culture elements such as Manga and Anime. It's something I'm looking into researching to be honest family.
>>
>>7388364
That's nothing at all like Berserk holy shit.
>>
>>7391074
That's cool. Are you at a uni right now engaging with a project?

>>7391145
Can you explain why?
>>
>>7391150
Because one is an impressionist work of imagination with exploration death, sin, ressurection and myth and the orther a really violent action comic book.
>>
>>7391150
I'm just a plebe of an undergrad focusing on completely basic assignments at the moment family. Next semester is research methods and then first semester senior year I have to write a senior thesis RIP me.

Hopefully once I get into graduate work/ PhD then I can open up some freedom in what I'm researching and working on. I might do independent study if I can find the right people to support it but I'd love some feedback and input from anyone to be honest.

Micheal Moorcock! Berzerk is not Corum, but with a black girlfriend and proto-Navi.

Shakespeare's histories and tragedies.
>>
>>7391145
Who gives a fuck mate. That really seems irrelevant to me. I just think someone who likes Berserk will also like Shadow of the Torturer.
>>
>>7388360
the odyssey comes to mind.

Oh wait, so they ARE really similar. Thanks for proving it, fucking retard, lmao.
>>
>>7391160
Then they're very similar. Seems like Berserk fans should read Wolfe's work.
>>
>>7391160
gonna check it out then thanks family
>>
>>7392624
Nah, there are few and superficial.
>>7392629
I love Wolfe and never liked Berserk.
>>
>>7392962
OK, but I'm saying that Berserk fans would appreciate Wolfe's work. Not the other way around.
>>
>>7392977
Possible. But I don't think the apparition comes from similarities in the works themselves.
>>
>>7388360
There are none. Fuck off.
>>
>>7392980
Well your description of the novel highlights some similarities, which Wolfe would obviously develop and explore more profoundly than Miura because of his skill as a writer and the medium he uses to express his ideas.
