Villains aren't /lit/
If you're reading a book that has a character who's indisputably a villain then you're reading a shit book
>>
>>7370925
Shylock
>>
>>7370905
8/10 - Rustled my jimmies, what a shitty villain after his past was revealed in HBP.

Society as a whole in Hugo's novels.

Never understood why he gets posted so much. Harry Potter has zero good characters.

muh 100+ million :')

Try 10,000 at best.
The propaganda pushed forth by the Zionist machine is no better than the soviet leftist Shlock.

Charles Walker in Stoner. Holy fuck that shitty little bastard.
>>

I was just shit posting. He is an awful villain

>implying any good literature has a "villain"
that said, Jack Gladney in Don DeLillo's White Noise
>>
>>7370980
I like you for addressing the fact the mustache twiddling "baddies"/villains aren't in good literature and for reading DeLillo.
The Judge in Blood Meridian (although i hate the depiction OP posted) is impressive because you cannot argue his moral stance but he is inherently evil. the Devil incarnate.
>>
I agree the judge is pretty good. I think generally a book is weakened by the existence of a clear "villian", unless the book is about what a villain is, i.e. Blood Meridian.

Yes! Blicero was essentially the embodiment of what 1970's America would be horrified of and i really think Pynchon put that on the page in a way no one else could have

Jason from The Sound and the Fury

biggest piece of shit in a book

Lhrereux in Madame Bovary is as bad a creature as Emma herself

seconding Voldemort
>>
>>7371342
All Jason did wrong was get shafted by the POV. He's the only person in that goddamn madhouse that actually works for his family, instead of whoring around, being senile, retarded, lazy or a pedo. The only villianous thing about him was that he was too proud to just say "fuck it" and get the hell out of dodge.

Fifth for Iago. Edmund in King Lear is also a real prick.

McCarthy does em good -- Lester Ballard in Child of God, Chigurh in No Country.

Carl in The Devil All the Time.

Dickens has a ton of good ones -- Bill Sikes, Fagin, Quilp, Uriah Heep, that fucking fucker Harold Skimpole pissed me off (not really a villain though).
>>
>>7370932
Kinda have to agree with this, characters who are completely absurdly evil are largely just uninteresing and unrelatable
