It's got more than enough style to make up for the lack of substance. I really love all those lingering, quiet shots of the infrastructure of contemporary Japan. It reminds me of those panels in Yotsuba& of power lines and walkways - very peaceful in weird way.

How much would I be missing out on if I skipped around a lot with philosophy? I only ever see going completely chronologically suggested here, but I'm not interested a lot in the Greeks right now.

Angel Egg is really good, and I'd recommend more Oshi if you like it. GiTS in particular.
Eva, imho, is arguably the best anime ever made (I'd argue about it at least), and I love it for a lot of reasons and recommend it wholeheartedly.
Tho I found Dandy jokes to be kinda dry so our tastes may be incompatible but I'll offer more reasons for my thinking if necessary.

I agree that the style made up for a lot of things, but after a while I came to terms that eye candy and style over substance didn't do it for me long term. I can enjoy it but I can't appreciate it as much as if it had a proper character I could experience it through.
