That's not the problem with /tv/. Lots of them seem to hate 'capeshit'. The real problem is that they cannot into any kind of criticism beyond that at all.

Well, that and baneposting.

Well, those two, plus the pedophilia.

Well, those three, and the fact that /pol/ has basically taken over to the point that you can't actually mention a black actor without destroying a thread.

...OK, there are a lot of problems with /tv/.

Lemme help you. Put some Tarkovsky, a few Bergmans, token Japanese one (Ozu if you see too many Kurosami), maybe a Malick, possibly a New Wave (Godard is too fashionable, Bresson is safer), if you're a Christard throw in Dreyer.

it is a grand glorious adventure infused with the joy of movie making, the whole thing is like a kid playing with toys and is so sincerely fun and naive that i don't know how anyone can't like it. it has heart by the gallon, naomi watts at her most beautiful, dinosaurs, giant insects, the most well realised sympathetic movie animal ever, a gorgeous soundtrack, and is so oversized and enthusiastic that i can't help but love it.
>>
>>5797452
Thanks.
OGF is like a modern Greek Tragedy (yeah, I know, this sounds cringe-worthy) with a precise Freudian subtext. People will say it's style over substance but cinema is a visual medium, the style is the substance, Refn perfectly understands that and that's why he focuses mainly on little details that you would ignore if they were more dialogues.
>>
>>5797507

>>

>>
>>5797552
Oh, I thought you meant my post was ironic. >>5797478 would have to be pretty dumb to miss that Nightcrawler was satirical, no?

Anyway, was a good film. Weirdly old-fashioned, in that I'm sure the exact same story could have been made back in the 1970s with no changes, but then maybe that's more a reflection on how TV news hasn't changed much.
>>
>>5797582
>maybe that's more a reflection on how TV news hasn't changed much

imo it seemed kind of outdated since nobody really gets their news primarily from TV anymore.

News today is far more politicized too instead of being solely about gritty violence (although of course violence can be politicized, but it wasn't in the movie).

>>5797643
I thought it was the best but ive heard plenty of valid reasons to the contrary, they're all great. For me, TWE just felt the most emotional and very organic in its connection of theme and content. It had that lovely quality of being a film you could recommend to most people without reservation. It did drag during the 3rd act but not as bad as the other two. I just loved it and found it to be very rewatchable and just lots of fun.
>>
>>5797879
I like them both a lot. Are there any other movies like that, random snapshots of a small dysfunctional town/plotless moments of disconnected entropy? I suppose Gummo has more connectedness but you know what I mean.
>>5797854
I wouldn't say it's resoundingly similar to any of them but I really like Fear and Loathing, The Thing, Drive and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy so I was wondering if you'd heard of another movie I really liked too because it's from like 91 and somewhat known.
