Definitely not the ideal book for you, but it has a lot of stories of the first sympathetic anthropologists ever encountering unknown tribesand what a fuckup they made of it

I took one anthropology class in college. We read Geertz's notes on the balinese cockfight, some book about a guy who was with a bunch of crack dealers in the bronx during the 80s, and some other stuff I don't really remember all that well.
