I'd say go for dune first. And lord of chaos the black metal book? If so then that one next, so it will get you craving lord of the rings/silmarillion.
>>

The Divine Comedy first. It'll help with some of the rest.

My main backlog shelf is

Underworld
Voices from Chernobyl
Ulysses
Against the Day
Mason & Dixon
Infinite Jest
The Legacy of Totalitarianism in a Tundra
Kafka on the Shore
Never Let Me Go
Lolita

Any ideas on what I should start with?I've already read a bunch of Pynchon so those two aren't urgent.

Just getting back into reading before diving into lit classics.

Is there something you can point as "this is why I lost interest"?
>>
>the western canon
>>
>almost no mentions of non-fiction in the backlog thread

What gives, /lit/?

Anyway:
Diodorus Siculus (reading now)
Appian
Caesar
Dionysius
Tacitus
Suetonius
Dio Cassius
Plutarch
Strabo (maybe)
Pausanias

Hoping to knock out lots of primary source Roman history, a few secondary sources (e.g., Gibbon, Asprey, Holland), and finally move on from Rome, maybe jump ahead to the crusades or Napoleon, or maybe jump back to knock out Greek drama to prep for Shakespeare.
