>>7787200
I have bad experiences with the publisher translations so im not sure.
>>7787200
Is this like the manga/anime? Or is it different or a continuation of it? Should i watch the anime first before reading too? Or is it just fine to read the book u think?
>>7787868
they are both based in the novel, you cunt.
How does lit feel about Neil Gaiman? He's a pretty bad writer but for whatever reason I like a couple of his stories.
I'm too tired to be a snob. He seems like a pretty decent human being.
>>7787206
This, he gets his shit done so I really have nothing to say. If anything I want his level of work ethic and enthusiasm.
>>7787194
I can't stand any if his books but I think The Sandman is spectacular.
I have a lot of stories that I would like to put on paper, mostly medieval fantasy, but without panderings and market foresight (that is, without any gary/mary sue or identifiable teen power trip) but not as bad as, let's say, chronicles of ice and fire or something.
So, besides writing, how do I become a writer?
You write out those stories and fix what doesnt work.
What are you looking for specific materials to help?
>>7787188
>besides writing, how do I become a writer
Read
a lot
>>7787197
That would be good, either something about the experience of writing or any "trick" for writing.
>>7787076
Is this the best we can do?
Who this drawn guy is? T. Anon idiot here
>>7787199
A meme.
What do you guys think of this book? I'm in about 1/3 and so far I really like it. I know McCarthy's style of writing is basically Hemingway's but I feel like it's more appropriate for his books.
>"I know McCarthy's style of writing is basically Hemingway's"
You dun goofed
>I know McCarthy's style of writing is basically Hemingway's
What the fuck?
Favorite book of all time. Ultra fun. Ultra cool. Ultra violent. Ultra... literary??? Huh??? Yes. Even Harold Bloom recommends you read it. Be sure to bring a dictionary with you because Cormac's got a big vocabulary and he knows how to use it.
The Judge is the greatest villain of all time, with the most wicked lines uttered since Nolan's Joker. You're going to be quoting him for months after you finish the book.
Oh, and here's a little image I made <--- A tribute
Opinion of Seamus Heaney?

Amazing writer. One of our favorite poets. Wintering Out is our favorite work of his.
Only thing I read by him was Beowulf
thought it was unrealistic
All I want out of life is to become a scholar, form a research team of like minded individuals and create an expansive compilation of mythology from all of classical antiquity from an all encompassing view point that considers the religious, spiritual, philosophical and psychoanalytic meaning of each individual myth, and their meaning as an interwoven section of the greater tapestry of it all. We would hold true to the ideals of classical antiquity, but we would not be beholden to nostalgia of the past, building upwards from the work of past scholars to create new conceptions...

When I was exploring my soul and spiritual awakening, I had this fantasy that my ancestors had been high priests of the ancient Mystery religions of Classical Antiquity, preserving their sacred knowledge in their psyches and passing through their blood across the ages, culminating with me now in this place. I feel as though it's my destiny to resurrect the ancient Mystery Traditions of my ancestors and unlock the sacred knowledge that I have access to in the collective unconscious.

Go to uni for classics or history, or something. That would probably be a good place to start.

Is modern academia the proper environment for such an undertaking? I dropped out of college shortly after I started amd haven't looked much into it since
What song / album / artist pairs well with certain books? I don't listen to music while I read, but for some reason I associate some books with certain albums.
Pic related is what I'm reading and Fleet Foxes' S/T has been in my head most of the time.
>>7786851
how did you make that work? By the time I finish Siddartha I'm barely past the third track
>>7786851
the album was dedicated to a Zen master so its sort of related in that aspect
pretty good listen

Adult Jazz - Springful is a song that's literally about that book, so maybe give that a listen.
I'll start:

If someone in real-life asked you to recommend a book and regardless of who the person was, what would you recommend so that the other person would get a positive experience out of it?
Picture is my choice, I believe that most people (I hope) have the capacity to enjoy this one.

Locus Solus.
bro, i love pinecone and lot 49, but you are crazy if you think most people would like that
Okay, so I just read pic related on /lit/'s recommendation, but I'm a bit confused.
From the point onwards of Gately getting shot, nothing really develops in the book, it seems to fall off its wheels and get bogged down in trying to develop the character after the fact, and to me just sort of stagnated.
Am I missing something, or does it just have a bad ending?
That's the point... usually in trash media (entertainment, tv, etc.) a lot of stuff happens at the end where it all wraps up and its very exciting. Well, Infinite Jest is NOT trash entertainment, it's a literature book, and it was Wallace's intention to make it not like television and bad media at all. So in Infinite Jest, nothing much happens toward the end, and it's boring, which is where it departs from television, which is usually exciting and interesting. If you didnt get this, you didnt get the book, sorry. Read it again.

Rock Superstar Osiris, after undertaking a narcissistic Messianic mission in the wake of the Jerusalem atomic blast is dramatically assassinated on live world-wide television on Jerusalem’s Via Dolorosa by a disillusioned follower. His wife and rock-star partner Isis then leads a spiritual movement to reconcile and unite the clashing religions and catalyze a common global spiritual Renaissance through a Global Progressive Spiritual Alliance which seeks to construct an Inter-faith Temple on the ruins of the atomic...

Yo /lit/, I'm a spud nigger here and thought it's about time I read the a book which is actually decent and comes from Ireland. I'm thinking about Ulysses and I'm wondering if I should read the Odyssey first. I heard that Joyce makes parallels between his book and the Odyssey. Even if it's not necessary for me to read it first would it be worthwhile just to understand Ulysses more?
>>7786073
to get the most enjoyment you should read
>Odyssey
>Dubliners
>Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
>a lil' bit of Ibsen
>>7786083
I'm reading Dubliners right now?
should I be getting more out of these stories than slight interest or am I just retarded.
'The Sisters' is not what I'd call a great story.
>>7786085
you're missing most of what's going on in the stories then
it's also pretty much straight up realism for the most part with no real writing flourishes sans The Dead.
The rest of his output is not this way.
