I live in a third world country and I can't afford 50 dollars for two books. I certainly would have if I could.
What do you guys think about the Rangers Apprentice?
Wasn't it written to try and get the author's son into reading? From memory it's a very simple fantasy story. Like a Zelda for boys.
>>7787805
That's what the Wikepedia entry says, so it's probably true. I saw the first couple books on the shelf of the local bookstore I sometimes stop by, but I've never read them, so I can't give an opinion about them.
I was about to make a post about this. My brother (total plebeian) read the Mage's Apprentice books, and from the looks of it they were garbage.
Once I peered over to look at him reading these books, and I was surprised at how decently written they were. From what I saw, Ranger's Apprentice actually seems to be one of the higher tier fantasy series in terms of actually having some thought put into it and not being complete garbage, but then I've never bothered to read them properly.
If your life was a subject of /lit/, which artwork would you be?
Mine would be the Call of the Cthulhu, and I would be the water.
I would be delphic apollo, god of the sun, worshipped and coddled by these unworthy but willing ones.
Why isn't A.A Attanasio discussed more here? the Radix tetrad is fucking legendary-tier sci-fi
>>7787664
>sci-fi
maybe that's the problem, this site is 18+
I'd wager its because no one's heard of him.
Because no one believes a fat ignatius reily type could become the ubermensch in the first book, honestly. What kind of bullshit transformation is that?
what are your thoughts about great erotic lit, not that miso crap going on screen or read by those old aunts in public

I'd like to come back and apologize for making this shitpost/meme.
You might get some good answers on /his/, they have pretty consistent threads on Orthodoxy there. I'm sure there is a /lit/ chart on Orthodoxy out there but with warosu messed up it will be hard to find.
Anyone here know of any short stories that deals with a failed artist wishing he had paid more attention to his family/friends instead of focusing on his art/career his whole life? Bonus points if it's very symbolic. Basically looking for the literary version of LCD Soundsystem's All My Friends, or the artistic version of John Cheever's The Swimmer? Or even A Christmas Carol, I guess.
Try De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period by Salinger.

Appreciate the recommendation.
I found a pdf of Nine Stories here ( http://materlakes.enschool.org/ourpages/auto/2013/2/25/50973306/Nine_Stories_by_J_D__Salinger.pdf ) if anyone is interested in reading it as well. I'd recommend A Good Day for Bananafish as well. Haven't read anything else in it though.

How do I write a proper story? Do I just make shit up as I go along? Do I flesh out the characters first? Do I establish the general idea of the beginning, middle, and end? I do not know where to even begin with this shit. I have a few scattered ideas all over the place but it I lack the way to organize it all together.
Just gotta do a bit of cocaine a bit of ketamine and a bit of heroin for good measure. Boom. There's your story.
Come up with 2 characters. Play them off eachother to determine chemistry. If it works, go forward from there. Why are they together? Why are they apart? What do they value? Who do they encounter? Why? What are their goals?
Done.
read some of Donald maass' books in writing. They're excellent advice for beginners (and people who need a refresher on the basics)
