So I’m in love. And the only thing I know about her is that she likes… Well interesting literature. I read all of Sade. (I think so anyway there might be more, pic shows what i got in my library) Story of O, and Grave desires by Steve Finbow, The Monk Matthew Gregory Lewis, Venus in Furs by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch and Necrophilia Variations by Supervert. What should I read next?
the torture garden by octave mirbeau.

Who are the best misanthropic authors?
Ludovici is pretty good:
>It has taken us over two thousand years to get back to this position and to restore the ancient Greek's sane and wholesome view of man as a psychosome, whose visible and invisible attributes cannot be judged apart. Meanwhile, such is the havoc that has been wrought by the false dualistic teaching of Christianity that, could an ancient Greek-say Sophocles, or even Aristophanes — be placed at some vantage point in the main shopping centre of any one of our modern cities,...

Gass is hands down the most misanthropic author ever, which, considering how fucked up his childhood was, makes sense. He makes his close friend--William Gaddis--look like mother Theresa.
Isn't the Illiad an ancient reflection on post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) of war veterans returning home and not being able to adapt to civilian society? Or am I reading it to anachronistically.

It's not 'about' any specific thing.
Do you read the intros?
Not often, and even then only after reading whatever it is they're introducing. They have a nasty habit of spoiling novels.
>inb4 reading for plot hurrdurr
almost always
If you don't like reading intros then you're not interested in perspectives on literature and are therefore an amateur reader.
Can anyone recommend me some Persian lit/poetry? I've read the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam and the penguin collection of Hafez and some other poets from Shiraz.
Here with a loaf of bread beneath the bough,
A flask of wine, a book of verse- and thou,
Beside me singing in the wilderness,
And wilderness is paradise enow!

What are the pros and cons to audiobooks?
i would imagine it depends on the tone of the speaker
ive never used audio books, also interested
Pro: Read while you're not reading
Con: Not really reading when you do read
Audiobooks make me angry and I'm really comfy right now, so I'm not going to touch this one.

or when do you look up a word?
Not in English but that's because I'm American.
If I'm reading French I can't get very far without looking up words, but in that case I look things up online.
>>7799750
I use my phone for the dictionary. It's great because it's so much faster to look up words on my phone, plus if needed I can look at images to get a better idea of the word. The downside is I can sometimes get distracted and end up on 4chan for a few minutes before going back to my reading.

>Not in English but that's because I'm American.
What are you reading that has no words of which you are unsure the meaning of?
For my senior project I said I would do philosophy essays because I thought it could look impressive and be pretty easy
I have absolutely no idea what to write about
Philosophy rec thread? I need to at least read a couple books to look like I did something.
Write about the metaphysical and semantic incoherence of Kripkean modal semantics of intuitionistic logics that use frames.

How do I learn about any of this
