What's so good about pic related? Why is it so commonly appreciated? I don't think I get it -- I tried to read it but I realized that I was not understanding it and stopped halfway. So, why do you think this book deserves its fame, /lit/?
>inb4 instant gratification generation, attention span of a tapeworm, go make some effort
Cute fuckin seal on the cover

So, it's something to do with the paratext? Did the author choose the cover art in a manner that contributes to the metafictional elements in the plot?

This book is genius...... First it makes you see these systems of US and THEM from a distance where it all appears so silly, then as the book goes on you begin to feel the presence of these superpowers just beneath the page the FORCE and COUNTERFORCE and begin to believe in them, suddenly everyone's taking sides - Tchitcherine sees the truth about the Rocket Cartel he's with US! and before you know it -- YOU are playing into the same game, hoping to see THE COUNTERFORCE prevail but wait, what's that ending, the cycle of DEATH continues.. THE ILLUMINATI'S...

Book is not that big a deal. It's just funny to watch new readers struggle through the shitty prose.
m8 you're not supposed to actually read it
Hey /lit, how's your day going?
Shitty
I spend all day trying not to think about suicide. It's tiring. I can only read in small breaks.
Pretty bad. I'm going to fail two mid-terms in the next two days, and consequently a class. My roommate is insane and keeps complaining about smells that don't exist. I keep getting my money in at 70%+ in poker and losing. In addition to my usual problems.
Hello friends,
I have recently completed a short story of just under 2,000 words. I have revised and drafted it several times.
I believe this is essentially as far as I can take the story alone.
Would anyone be willing to read it and offer thoughts/criticisms/suggestions? I would appreciate that very much.
Thank you in advance for any responses.

Among the bustle of holiday shoppers, there was one other still figure. An old man was watching the tree too. He looked one hundred years old. His face was as gnarled and grooved as the bark of the tree. Water came out of his eyes, meandering down the ancient lines on his face and dripping off his chin.
“Are you alright, sir?” I asked. “Why are you crying?”
Stopped reading right here. Every single thought you included is duplicated. The lonely figure: twice. He's old: twice. He's crying: twice.
Less is more.

He looked one hundred years old

So for oldfags here, is this project dead now? I haven't heard anything about it in quite some time. I didn't participate in it either, so I have no idea what happened. Ever since /his/ came to be, I haven't heard anything about it. Sorry if the question sounds stupid but I've been away from the board for awhile.
>pic unrelated

What does /lit/ think of Edward Snowden?

Pretty awesome guy. Basically showed the US how the government is sniffing their information, all of it, every single time you send and receive data. And this is a good chunk of our federal budget is going towards... baka. We could fund colleges with that, but, no, they've got to stick by their flimsy data mining and collecting procedures to somehow ward off the threat of terrorism.

Hey /lit/, whenever I'm on a long car ride, and someone else is driving, I try to read. I don't usually get carsick, or even motion sick, but reading makes me feel awful after about 20 minutes. I'm always upset because the back seat of a car for 2 hours would be such a great time to read. Is there any solution to this? Do any of you anons share my pain?
>>7812643
i feel this pain
Try audiobooks desu
i used to. try swallowing some dramamine?
Sup /lit/.
This is sorta unrelated, but I didn't know where to post it, so here it is:
I have a really hard time expressing myself through writing. I'm in my senior year of high school, and I've never gotten an A on a written assignment, essay or pretty much anything that requires writing skills. I re-read my mails multiple times before sending them. I'm pretty much incapable of writing stories or anything original. Now, you probably think I'm some sort of an autist, but I have no problem communicating with people verbally. My teachers tell...

"On Working White Liberals" - Maya Angelou
I don’t ask the Foreign Legion
Or anyone to win my freedom
Or to fight my battle better than I can,
Though there’s one thing that I cry for
I believe enough to die for
That is every man’s responsibility to man.
I’m afraid they’ll have to prove first
That they’ll watch the Black man move first
Then follow him with faith to kingdom come.
This rocky road is not paved for us,
So, I’ll believe in Liberals’ aid for us
When I see...

I think she means how welfare destroyed the black middle class and working class in the USA.
It pretty much destroyed the nuclear family.
what are the best vietnam war books? fiction, poetry, non-fiction, etc.
so far I have
Meditations in Green - Stephen Wright
Dispatches - Michael Herr
The Things They Carried - Tim O' Brien

The Quiet American
Where is all the great literature of the 21st century? The second decade is in its waning half and yet there is nothing comparable to the doorstoppers of the early 20th century. When did writing become kill?
All of culture has become a garbage dump
People have to focus on paying their next rent instead of their self-development
I blame neoliberalism, the toilet of ideologies
>>7812548
That's because publishers only publish shit that they think can sell to the mainstream masses. There are good books being written, but they are all in the underground/indie world. Bizzaro fiction is still coming on strong.
>>7812548
>there is nothing comparable to the doorstoppers of the early 20th century

2/10. You would be better off not reading at all.
Sorry Catholicism and Orthodoxy, but Goethe blows everyone out of the water.
