What the hell was the point of this book?
Was this just vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity?

>Was this just vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity?
you say that like its a bad thing
but no I think its about alienation from community and how it effects the outcast
it's about a child of God much like yourself perhaps.
Well, God supposedly made us in image and likeness, so maybe the book is on to something.......
My friend gave me all his old Goosebumps books recently. I started reading them, and was overcome with nostalgia. These were a lot better than I remembered them (even with the now obvious shit-tier writing style that I was oblivious to in 4th grade). And I have a new found appreciation for those God-tier covers.
So, given the cool stories, great covers, massive nostalgia rush, and their massive popularity (I think they've sold over 350 million copies worldwide), and given the man child nature of this site, I have to say, there's really no excuse for not having...

The pseudo-patrician neckbeards start tearing you apart in 3, 2, 1...
Sure OP. But most people on this site don't care enough about Goosebumps, so it's not gonna happen. You could start your own chan.
Like I said on the other thread, I would like a RL Stine board, sure, and I could even believe there might be a silent, dormant, unrealized want for the board from the community at large, just waiting to be aroused.
But don't count on Hiroyuki to pick up on it, even if we all demand it. Other than the history board he added, none of the board additions really make much sense, and there are more wanted boards that have not been added.
(Pic related was my favorite cover)
By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept
when we remembered Zion.
2 There on the poplars
we hung our harps,
3 for there our captors asked us for songs,
our tormentors demanded songs of joy;
they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
4 How can we sing the songs of the Lord
while in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem,
may my right hand forget its skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
if I do not remember you,
if I do not consider Jerusalem
my highest joy.
7 Remember, Lord, what the Edomites did

no but i love any prose sprinkled with "wheretofores" and "vainglories"
rate my mildly suicidal stream of conscioussness
everyday wake up a bit more tired
everyday wake up feelin heavy entire
body lags and my brain dont react
like im stuck in a pit of mollasses
watch the people walk around the street
theyre all laughin
feels like theyre laughin at me
too funny to feel no pity
instead he just walks everywhere
collecting thoughts while he looks out and stares
dont worry nobody's aware
dont worry nobody cares
thats all ive got for now
it's really bad
sage and hidden
It's literally fucking stupid. Kill yourself.
Also who the fuck says "mollasses" in 2016? You aren't in Beat Happening faggot.
Where do I start with Walt Whitman? I recently purchased Leaves of Grass and was wondering if I just dive in? Or should I jump around, reading some of his more famous poems first?
What are /lit/'s favorite Whitman poems?
Just read leaves of grass. If you like it read some collections
Should one start with the first edition of the book or read the edited death-bed edition?

First edition.
Can someone explain why women can't stop making unfunny jokes about Jonathan Franzen?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuyhANXMj2o
If you're making youtube videos about Jonathan Franzen the likelihood that you are a funny person is about the same as that you are a billionaire.
He's the apotheosis of Clueless White Male. You don't even need to make up stuff to mock him because his books do it for you.

Does /lit/ sometimes get curious about what the world looks like to powerful people, how their culture, social circles etc. are made up?
This anon is politely asking for books (does not have to be literature) on the topic. Yes I could go to /r/books, but instead of some affiliate marketers I wanted to ask you. I am especially not asking for fiction though because the perspective I want to gain should be as close to reality as possible - whether it is the world of high-end lawyers, investment bankers, politicians, criminals or just rich people in general does not matter....

The Theory of the Leisure Class
Rich, powerful people are boring and universally too stupid even to realize that they benefit from their wicked cool social networks, and too stupid to cultivate the POWER ELITE culture on anything other than an unconscious level, as evidenced by the fact that they're all turning their kids into spoiled Tumblr-using duds. High end lawyers in particular are all jobbers who think they're part of a cultural elite when that's only barely true if they're from a metropole and then they're still considered nouveau riche.
If you ever want to kill yourself,...

I really, really like Ashenden, and also The Birthday Party, 2 excellent books that can be read many times, but most serious readers haven't even heard of them. Sad. I don't understand how some books get ignored.
Anyone?
Stoner
I wouldn't say that I love them or that they're basically unknown, but I've really enjoyed every Warhammer 40k book I've read.

Why did philosophers in ancient Greece go walk or sit around a gym to do philosophy?
Was it because they were all gay as fuck and wanted an excuse to go see a bunch of /fit/ dudes?
mens sana in corpore sano
It's a convenient meeting spot.
There was little else to do than banter and mire fit dudes at the time because women stayed in the house and they had slaves to work.

Cause cities were disgusting and filled with retards so you went to the equivalent of a private club to get some training and thinking and reading done with your bros.
Is Karl May worth reading? I read many books of him when I was a kid.
Also general Karl May thread

Those are some nice books
My dad has the same edition!
Try reading one book, they're good escapism from someone who's never left his village, but nothing spectacular if you're older than 18

I'm not American though.
But have it your way, let's move aside from the (nonexistent) plot for a moment. Prose? Nothing to write home about. And don't get me started on the characters, Tengo the boring asshole and pederast and Aomame the feminist ninja, give me a break.
To put the icing on the cake, the last 300 pages are the two blandest characters in the history of fiction doing fuck all while waiting for each other in two apartments within walking fucking distance, while Gary...

Great author or greatest author?
>>7831554
i've only read two of his novels but i think he's pretty great.
I've read a few of his books recently. Like him a lot. Does the impossible of making sci-fi patrician-tier.
does anyone know if his older brother used to beat him up when he was a kid, or is that just a recurring theme in his work?
