are there any good novels about isolated online communities? or just internet communities in general? the closest i could think of is richard yates (the novel by tao lin) but that's not exactly what i'm talking about.

Serial Experiments Lain?
It ain't a novel but it's there.
You'd have to be very creative to make an internet community interesting
homestuck was this early on but then the trolls were introduced and it turned to shit

Recommend Riyria its good
Old Man's War is a good knock off of Starship Troopers
Also reminder authors with Terry in their name are shit, do not read.
How do game of thrones book fans feel forced to experience the new book through the filter of bad HBO writers and bad actors? Has there ever been such a cucking?
>bad HBO writers
But the books's author is also bad.
are the books any good?
never even watched the show. I don't usually like fantasy shit
I've read all of the books and the show is honestly superior. At least with the show I can get my mindless entertainment delivered in discrete chunks. I'll probably finish the series (yeah right, he'll never get around to wrapping it up) but only because I've been cucked by the sunk cost fallacy.
I started reading this today and I binged the first 150 pages all in a day.
I FINALLY FUCKING GET IT. 5 years spent on /lit/ and I finally understand every single one of you going crazy about this book.
Infinite Jest is the greatest literary work since the beginning of humanity.
Ouch, the old edition.

Nothing personnel, Westeros
Hello /lit/. I'm reading Shelley's Prometheus Unbound, and I am able to understand it without using any secondary texts, but I'd like to read more about the Prometheus myth. Can you suggest me a good book/article/paper about it?
B-bump
How I get into eastern philosophy? Who are the most notable philosophers, and which one should I start with? Please no new-agey shit, if possible.
Reading philosophy is waste of time
>>8000844
And, if this means anything, I'm not a complete novice to philosophy, having read most of Plato's dialogues, most of Aristotle's Shit, most of Nietzsche and The Tractatus.

Does Buddha have his own writings? You should read those, probably.
Hello /lit/. I'm interested in classical books and authors like Shakespeare, Dante and Cervantes. The thing is that I haven't read any classical pieces before or many other books than some when I was a teenager, so should I read something to "prepare" myself for reading classical pieces by starting in some order so that I would "get it"? Or can you just go ahead and read all you want from where ever you want without it affecting your reading experience or understanding the book? Thank you for your time...

Start with Shakespeare, if you can't enjoy him you're basically a permapleb.

What book/books?

Do you want humor, sadness, action, romace, historical stuff, etc? Its all there. Look around and see, you can't go wrong and none of the works are that long so you can power through them if you feel like they start off slow.
I don't know of your level of comprehension of his diction, if you feel like your having trouble, there's a few versions that define words and summarize scenes so you can both enjoy and understand the writing.
Ok, so I read The Futurological Congress by Lem on /lit/'s recommendation. I was searching for sci-fi with beautiful prose and the book came up. Being a fan of Tarkovsky's Solaris, I thought Lem's books would be equally intense and beautiful.
What I got, however, seemed like third rate Vonnegut (and Vonnegut's already third rate). Don't get me wrong. It was a decent and amusing read, which is what I needed at the time. My question is just, should I try any other Lem books? I want to read Solaris. But I'm afraid it'll be just like FC; an...

Should I read this? The hype surrounding it and the author's image has always turned me off. Is it really as good as some say it is?
I'm about half way though right now. I'm enjoying myself.

China is already a world power. It's pretty much colonized Africa already. But the fact is it has a corrupt political system, a disgusting backwards pseudo-Western culture, a brutal legal system and no aesthetic standards at all. It's one giant Kowloon Walled City. Observing China from space is like watching flies reproduce on a piece of dog feces. I'm sure it's fun walking around Guangzhou in your leather trenchcoat, black sports shades and pinstriped fedora while...

I have, it is.
The Zen master Hakuin was praised by his neighbours as one living a pure life.
A beautiful Japanese girl whose parents owned a food store lived near him. Suddenly, without any warning, her parents discovered she was with child.
This made her parents angry. She would not confess who the man was, but after much harassment at last named Hakuin.
In great anger the parent went to the master. "Is that so?" was all he would say.
After the child was born it was brought to Hakuin. By this time he had lost his reputation, which did not trouble him,...

How do you learn to read faster? I know, read more. And, by the way, I know that the speed of reading does not necesarily make you a good reader. I ask because I find my mind wandering very easily when I read, and find it very difficult to use my time efficiently when I read. I see myself reading a passage and pretty much forgetting how to read for a second before I wake up from my trance and have to start the whole passage over again. Does meditation help with concentration? If possible, I would like to be able to read both deeply/thoroughly as well as efficiently, so if you...

Yeah meditation would probably help.
