3/10 would not bang

If he got rid of that dorky haircut he'd probably be at least a 6/10 with some good fits
Have you ever learnt a foreign language to fluency, for the sole/main purpose of reading literature in that language? If so, which language did you learn? Have you found other uses for it?
Yes. Icelandic.No.
Yes. Somalian. No.
Yes, cuneiform, yes.
Can some one give me criticism for my story please? I wanna give this Post-Apocalyptic kid's story a go.
But I wanna know if my writing is shit.
It's shit, don't bother senpai desu
>>8070120
there's already a critique thread you faggot.
>>8070133
Lol, how do I post this shit? Sorry I'm used to posting images, but how does one post like a word document?
Can the Love for your own work, ultimately BLIND you from any legit criticism others may have?
Or is it simply because their criticism is shit?
>liking your own work
>>8070017
Is it so wrong to take pride in one's own labour? In something you made? Isn't that pride the driving force that makes you want to keep writing?
>>8070020
Inflated sense of pride usually goes hand in hand with hating your own work.
Hi lit. I'm looking for a place to start in philosophy. I am most interested in the existentialist philosophers and I know someone is probably going to say to start with the greek philosophers, but I'm not really sure I want to do that unless I'm really sold on the idea. I'm sorry, I just don't want to waste time unless I feel in my heart that it's going to be worth while.
I was thinking of getting these books.
The Stranger by Albert Camus (or The Myth of Sisyphus)
Nausea by Jean-Paul Sartre
Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche

Philosophy is not for you.
>Sartre
Fucking don't. Same goes for Foucault and all the other hacks like Habermas/Deleuze/etc.
You only need Schopenhauer.
>>8069923
You're saying not to bother with Nietzsche or Camus?
Can you write believable characters and situations even if you are a shut-in with zero social experience?
>>8069846
No
See: fanfic
>>8069846
No, see GRRM
This honestly makes me sad.
Nietzche is an obscurantist self help tier Rorschach test for pretentious pseudo intellectuals.

>he didn't understand

>>8069831
Go help yourself.
What's the best edition of Ulysses? I was thinking of buying the Everyman's book because hardcovers are less likely to go to shit, but l figured l'd ask here first.
The best edition is where you go back in time, get passout drunk with Joyce and listen to his schizophrenic ramblings first hand.

>Tfw you will never sit in a room and watch him giggling whilst reading passages from Finnegans Wake
>Tfw even Ezra Pound said Finnegans Wake was beyond the pale

But in all seriousness I heard that the Oxford Classics versions are best as they tend to have more descriptive introductions & footnotes as opposed to Penguin Classics although I'm not sure Ulysses has either version. But what does /lit/ think? Penguin Classics, Everyman's Pocketbook, or Oxford Classics?
>Perhaps! But who wishes to concern himself with such dangerous ‘Perhapses’! For that investigation one must await the advent of a new order of philosophers, such as will have other tastes and inclinations, the reverse of those hitherto prevalent—philosophers of the dangerous ‘Perhaps’ in every sense of the term. And to speak in all seriousness, I see such new philosophers beginning to appear.
Who was he referring to here?
Please don't tell me it was those PoMo hacks or slimy fucks like Žižek.
Or could it be...

I think he was anticipating Analytical Philosophy more than Post Modernist crap.
>>8069771
Nietzsche is a fucking meme. Schopenhauer was better.
>>8069771
What does he mean by "Perhaps"? Is he roughly talking about Philosophers who investigate things that might be true, as opposed to must be true? Those involved with probability? If thats all he means then Id say the Analytics and Pragmatists. Analytics on the ground of actual logic of probability, Pragmatists for the emphasis on "maybe truths" abd "good enough truths" than certain truths.

Stoicism is the greatest lie.
It is the lie of statues.
Reminder that stoicism is the favorite philosophy of redditors and autists.
Epicureanism beats it by miles.
Reminder that stoicism is the best tool to keep the fools complacent.
I'm looking for a word which is closely related to "extravagance". Been struggling to find it for quite some days. Allow me to give a brief context for the word I'm seeking:
>Georg Woxhaven grew up with a taste for art, but never had the money for it
>He studied his way into a career which netted him a hefty amount of money
>He still lives like a 20 year old student, buys the cheapest food, drives a dinged up old car, and uses all his leftover money to purchase...

Who doesn't?
Is college/university worth it?
Depends on the student,
Depends on said student's goals/prospects,
Depends on the college/university,
Depends on the major,
and Depends on the means one has
university is for cunts
As long as you get a full-ride, sure
Best four-year vacation I've ever been on
If you don't get a full-ride, then no, there's literally nothing at college worth paying for
How often do you find yourself enjoying what you read? Is it easier to get pleasure from it as a hobby if you do it more?
I'm taking up reading with some classics and despite that I'm not enjoying it as much as I'd hoped.
If I'm not enjoying it I don't read it
>>8069125
So you enjoy the books you do like from start to finish?
>>8069118
Are you focusing on getting through the material quickly?
