war n piece?
What books will help me dont giving a fuck about the opinion of me that people that i have around could have? Im a shy guy, but not introverted, the problem is that i care too much about the image i project or about what other people think about me and that is making me a slave to the point that my shyness is slowly developing into social anxiety, and i know that because i suffered from it in the past.
Thank you anons.

In that order. Also the rational male for good measure. Although this is in regards to girls, the advice is life encompassing.

No, only lifting will. The only true way to don't give a shit is to actually feel superior to everyone else

Nice try, Tom.

You want to devote yourself fully to Scientology for 6months to a year? You can progress as fast as you want, it all depends on how much money you have. So, do you have thousands of dollars to burn for this little experiment?

I think we're too pretentious sometimes /lit/. Let's just have a good, simple thread. Post your favorite book and why.
Mine is 'Revolutionary Road'. Sure, it is a fairly simple book but I enjoy it. I think I identify with it because I am also a man forced to do a job that sucks the energy clean out of me, to live a life I moderately disdain; all with a woman I merely tolerate.
Get the fuck out, pleb.

Why am I not surprised?
Get back to reading your meme books kiddo.

I like to write. I am aware that I most likely don’t do so very well, but from time to time I like to write down whatever little story comes to my mind while I go about. I never really write much though. Sometimes I get these spurs where I write maybe five to six pages over the course of a couple days, but when I then later look back at what I have written I just get this feeling that it is shitty and ridiculous. I mean what am I even trying to do here? Everything seems to be so generic, used up and overdone. Nothing I write seems to have any originality, and only tells the...

do you WRITE on paper or do you type shit?
If you feel its generic then see how you can approach it in a different way and what elements you can add.
If you feel you have some technical issues then study up to see what you can do about it.
Also, the people who say "everything's been done before" are fucking stupid. Forget them.

On a computer. Why?
>On a thousand bridges and piers shall they throng to the future, and always shall there be more war and inequality among them: thus does my great love make me speak! Inventors of figures and phantoms shall they be in their hostilities; and with those figures and phantoms shall they yet fight with each other the supreme fight! Good and evil, and rich and poor, and high and low, and all names of values: weapons shall they be, and sounding signs, that life must again and again surpass itself!
And people try to tell me that Nietzsche didn't...

He also didn't read Kierkegaard, but both went on about recurrence or return or whatever you want to quote. No doubt the phantom thing like the spook thing is to do with Hegel's Time-Ghost.
Which books of the bible should I read?
Preferably all of them, but if not:
Read the Torah: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Number, Deuteronomy.
Read the beautiful stuff: Ecclesiastes, Job, Song of Solomon
Read Isaiah, the only prophetic work required to fully understand the weight of the NT
Read all of the Gospels. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
Read Acts.
Primary Epistles: Romans, Corinthians, Ephesians, Timothy, Hebrews, 1/2/3 John
And of course read Revelation.
>>8281625
All of these and also Daniel
>>8281625
lol don't read Leviticus or Numbers or Deuteronomy unless you really want to. It isn't necessary unless for study.
Also not mentioned, Proverbs and Isaiah
>tfw can't even make myself eat healthily anymore due to existential crisis reasons ("Who cares, looking good is a spook" or "Procrastinating this won't mater, having low willpower won't matter" etc)
>tfw struggling to have any beliefs at all (whether to work hard or be lazy)
>as shown by my 4chan presence I just do whatever is lowbrow enough to manipulate me (internet, fast food)
wat do???
Read something by Grant Morrison.
Read something by Camus.
Think about death. Realize it's inevitable. Realize it comes for everyone.

that's just depression m8, not some sort of existential crisis.
Is this one of Pynchon's worst? I've read Lot 49, Inherent Vice, and some of Bleeding Edge. I'm really not getting Bleeding Edge so far. I want to try V. and GR eventually, but if it's like this, I think I'll pass.
>i-is it ok if I stop reading this /l-lit/?
>>8281520
it's still Pynchon so it's still a good read, but pales in comparison with his best work. Can't blame the old man. Finish the book, son

He wrote it in his 70s while the two you're talking about were written 40-50 years prior. What do you think?
I always had a passion for it but never realised it and now I want to do it and also to replace my habit of playing computer games with it.So my question is how should I begin If I want to get the best out of a book(to understand it fully).Should I just google all the terminology or there is a book that have them all explained deeply and the same with analysis(is there a good site for it or I should google it and just read all the results.)Also feel free to share any tips or things that you think might be helpful.Oh and in case youre wonder I obviously read a lot of books already...

Look at lit's list of recommended literature and go for the one you recognize for hearing about them before.
If you tell me what sort of things you like we could advise you better.
Read literature of your own language first obviously.

I don't have any preferences yet but I'm usually irritated by love noves
and am also really interested in surrealism(i know its a broad term) but am not sure if i'm literate enough to really read such literature.

>Being a complete beginner but having a passion about literature
you've spooked yourself, you don't know what passion is, the closest you've come to experiencing it has been the mind-numbing æther of vidya which you've let yourself luxuriate in for the entire nascence of your degenerate life
read the blind owl and then off yourself so you can start over and try again
So, other than Paradife Loft, Lycidas, Il penseroso, l'allegro and a handful of his essays, are Milton's other works worth reading? I mean, I know they're worth reading; but are they worth investing the time to look up sources, explanations, critical insights, etc? I've read a few of his sonnets and they seem more like exercises in the form than meaningful contributions to his work as a whole.
>I've read a few of his sonnets and they seem more like exercises in the form
if you read when i think how my life is spent and you think it's just an "exercise" idk what to tell ya
read samson agonistes

Milton is probably the most encyclopedic author of all English tradition, the more you read the more what you've already read gets reinforced or expanded.
>>8281417
Milton and Shakespeare are GOAT,
What did Jack Kerouac mean by this?
"im a degenerate faggot with no talent"

Many "made up stories" are literature though
Jesus, he can't write for shit.
Lit, how do I be a bad writer?
Unlike you guys, I don't want to write well. I want to write awfully. But I keep writing stuff and it ends up coming out good, or interesting. It's maddening and there's no real help on this front.
I thought maybe you'd know better than anyone else.
Thanks,
Jeremy

>Ahhhh the turd said as it slid out of an anus and was flushed away to the sewers, feeling bliss. For you see to the turd this was the end of a long and arduous life-cycle that begun as part of a cow. Now he was going to dissolve into water, be purified, and one with the Earth. Briefly, before his consciousness left him, he felt a sense of gratitude for all the humans who made this possible. The Tao was real.
See this isn't actually that bad. People want...

That's half like asking how do i become bad at the science of physics, and half like asking how do i become bad at carpentry... you can't accomplish the former without intentionally causing harm to your brain, probably. The answer to the latter is obvious but you probably think it's too obvious so you dismiss it. You become bad at carpentry by not doing the things you are supposed to do to be good at carpentry in the way you are supposed to do them. Which is a little interesting because it means that...
