Did you actually started with the Greeks? If so, how would one approach them.
Would you say they're value lies in their historical and literary value or their actually masterpieces?

Pardon me if I sound needy, but what translation would you recommend?
I know English and Spanish if that counts.
>>7315279
nigga, no one is going to go to /his/, because that board is complete shit
just tell the guy to read the presocratics, then go to Plato, then Aristotle, then the Stoics, then Epicurus and finally get into romans if you like them
read the wiki page for presocratics and read the article of each one of them, then read the apology of socrates before anything about plato, afterwards its your choice basically.

Check out Enheduanna then, she was the first known poet: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6266881-princess-priestess-poet
Also if you have enough motivation I recommend taking a look at another translation because Stephen Mitchell, although talented, takes a lot of liberties. It would be good to have another reference. Well, you can just go on to the greeks if you feel like it but perhaps reading some texts on the possible influence of the epic of Gilgamesh on the greeks would be interesting too.
Hello, /lit/.
A god just cornered every single red neck, close minded, stubborn piece of shit in one single place. Everyone who cannot graps anything beyond what they already know is in this place.
You have been chosen by this deity to help those people, they will only be able to leave once they read 3 books of your choice.
Your goals are:
1. Make them able to see other opinions and points of view
2. Make them able to understand and analyse concepts
3. Make them capable of understanding other people's emotions.
I apologize for any grammatical...

>wanted to be the greatest writer when I was 16

Well there's your problem.
Which philosophers consider you to be most literary and therefore still allowed in this board?
Will only continental philosophy remain on /lit/?
>>7315051
Personally I'd consider all philosophers with written work acceptable to discuss on /lit/.
The 2 guys spamming the threads with
>muh /his/
are a bunch of faggots ruining the board.
/lit/ has been my home for a long time and restricting the conversation on things which are clearly related to literature is purely retarded.
Thats why boards die.
I don't want /lit/ to be another board in the ashes.

Wittgenstein
Hm?! W-what is this book?!
It seems to be some sort of textbook, but on what subject? It doesn’t seem to be about math, history or science. Is it perhaps about astrology? No… but it does seem to concern stars.
Within its pages I find text detailing an enormous hole that exists far, far off in the depths of the skies above. It is described as being able to absorb anything and everything, from gigantic beasts to monstrous boulders, even mountains, continents and other stars! It sucks up all kinds of matter with ease. To me, a man who considers all the holes in...

The first thing I saw was "Pretty when you cry: A dark love story" The cover was a guy with a hipster beard kissing a woman.
I scrolled through dozens of pages, and all I saw was shitty hipster books made by edgy teenagers.

I never tried to publish anything, anywhere son. I was hoping Amazon could be my first one.

Self-publishing is an amazing tool if you know how to use it. Plopping your stuff on there with a 0.99c pricetag as an unknown and with minimal editing is a great way to never get read.
It's been 32 days since all of this started, and now it's finally coming to an end. To think that all this started just because some anon said that the 2014 list was outdated.
I made my own versions of the infographic. Although I must say tha I know nothing about graphic design. So what I did is I uploaded all the files regarding the poll except the ones I'm posting now because I made them after I uploaded everything.

Can I still post about being a neo-Kantian, categorical imperative etc if I do it in reference to Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals?
Where should I post if I want to do close readings of philosophical texts?hopefully not with history majors

Hey /lit/, what's the best way to get into meditation?
After reading Siddhartha, I want to give it a shot.
by meditating. Look online for about 15 seconds and you'll find about 1 million beginner's guides and begin. It's really not that complicated.

do stories HAVE to be related to the topic to win the moolah?

>US$50 prize for the best story that features the issue's theme of "Heat."
This thread is off to a great start.
let's say hypothetically one were to take an unrelated, pre-written short story, and tack on as the final sentence: "David then set himself on fire and died screaming."
would that count?
I already posted this thread on /his/, but I wanna hear your recommendations, too.
I am really interested in old expeditions, preferably in the victorian era. Everything was so unknown back then, there were mysteries everywhere.
Sadly I don't really know much about famous explorers or expeditions, but I'd love to learn about it.
What are some of the best travel journals and adventure literature from the georgian/victorian/edwardian era (or any era, if it's interesting)? I wanna read about strange new cultures, archeological findings, jungle expeditions,...
