/lit/ calling you a pleb, probably.

Like most people here you probably won't see past the sci-fi/fantasy aspects, and this, dear boy, is when your career as a plebeian is marked.

Library of America putting out a special edition of Wallace's tennis essays. Probably the only thing stopping them from putting out the rest of his work is copyright.
Wallace = canonized. Suck it, haters.

“For me, the last few years of the postmodern era have seemed a bit like the way you feel when you're in high school and your parents go on a trip, and you throw a party. You get all your friends over and throw this wild disgusting fabulous party. For a while it's great, free and freeing, parental authority gone and overthrown, a cat's-away-let's-play Dionysian revel. But then time passes and the party gets louder and louder, and you run out of drugs, and nobody's got any money for more drugs, and things get broken and spilled, and there's cigarette...

I'm honestly just surprised he's got something to say about post-modernism in general. After what he's written, he doesn't seem the type.
dfw said that shit you imbecile
Why didn't Wallace become fucking Catholic or Orthodox if he wanted order and structure so badly?
Hello /lit,/
How are you keeping yourself philosophically engaged with these dramatically shifting times of revolution, social unrest, and preeminent destruction of society as it is today by way of climate change?
I have given a lot of thought to Nietzsche's Ubermensch, and his overcoming through tragedy. Is there a finer philosopher to read through this new dawn?
What values do you think would be useful to hold onto in the storm? Are there any philosophers that you would suggest to read to help approach these times of calamity?

What is integrity?
It's defined based on an unquantifiable amount of parameters that are constantly shifting.
You can't just tell someone to live by integrity and expect it to work. Just think of the first few things that come to mind when thinking of integrity.
- Doing the right thing
- Be a responsible adult
- Show courage
How shallow. How vague.

BANGING THE DRUM LIKE DUM DE DEE DEYY
I destroy everything I write. From deleting to burning I have prematurely killed all of my stories for the last two years. At least a hundred documents have been annihilated by me. I love to write but when I read it over it just always seems like pure shit. I can't even tell I'd I'm actually getting any better because no matter what I do it just seems like total atrocious god awful shit later.
>tfw never going to finish anything and be satisfied with it

welcome to hell family
>>7412593
People talk about having finished manuscripts here. I wish I could like my stuff enough to at least get to that point. The most depressing part is that I love my plots and ideas but hate what they turn into when I try to put them down. I have so much bullshit going on in my head that NEEDS to come out but I don't have the tools. Its really like having no mouth and needing to scream or needing to jerk off but having death grip syndrome. It makes me hate myself and question why I even have this ability to think...

I can relate. You either hone your craft to the point you can do your ideas justice or you give up. Nothing else to it man. That's life, what're you gonna do? You weren't born with the talent for white hot prose, neither was I, neither was 99% of this yahoo board. Write the best shit you can, that's all you can do

Hey /lit/
I'm here for help to find a book that i read in high school, 10 years ago. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it, The only details that i can remember
1) the cover was red *i think*
2) it was a book about a country that was split up into sections and i think they were colour coded grey was right at the bottom where the slums etc. I'm sure the country was just a circle shape.
I know thats super vague but thats the only details i can remember i just remember enjoying it.
Thanks in advance.

Off the top of my head I think We (yevgeny zamyatin) took place in a circular city-state.
>>7412300
Thanks for the reply, but i don't think that's it!
The only thing i remember vividly is the fact that there were many zones grey slums. blue poor. orange middle class. etc etc.
Man this is doing my head in.
I guess it doesn't really matter. What does matter is Infinite Jest. Have you read Infinite Jest yet, OP?
Will i enjoy LoTR if i really like ASOIF? Which one is better?
Let's ignore the fact that LoTR came first, and is a major inspiration of almost EVERY fantasy series after it.
Do you know the shit JR Tolkien did to make Lord of the Rings? He made THE ELVISH FUCKING LANGUAGE

A GRAMMATICALLY CORRECT, COHERENT LANGUAGE

He's a serial-killer who butchers his victims and keeps the remains in his office.
