where to start with the new meme trilogy? do I need to read Savage Detectives?
Whoever decided on those is retarded
>>7453351
Why? They all seem like highly well-regarded novels, if a bit obtuse.
That's not the meme trilogy.
It's probably just because of my melancholic personality, but /lit/ I crave perfection. I've read through classics, I've read through epics, but just nothing has seriously -grabbed- me when it comes to fiction- the closest is Tolkien but more often then not I always end up reading the struggles and epics of real human beings because they are actually three dimensional beings, or were at once.
But is there somebody out there, anybody at all, who writes with the purple prose of lovecraft/lovecraftian work, has the world building of Tolkien, and the very real,...

you wouldn't know perfection if it jumped up and bit you in the dick
sounds like you don't know how to appreciate literature
>>7453313
How so? My search is for the perfect story. The problem is that I only ever find one that excels in one regard- either it has excellent characters, a fantastic world/plot, or it has glorious prose. There's never a combination of all three. There is never perfection. And it's driving me mad.
Authors and "intellectuals" that disturb you but at the same time strike a morbid fascination of.
Not necessarily for there ideas, books or ect, but more the content and power of there personality and ideas.
For example
L Ron Hubbard
Marquis de Sade
Pier paolo pausini
Michel Foucault
Philosophy is just samantics LMAO
Arguing over what words means is pointless like "buh buh buh buh buh" could mean anything dude just roll with it
dumb guy hears: 'buh buh buh'. Assumes everything is nonesense. Writes paper: literally 'buh buh buh'.
Professor: 'I don't know about this paper'
Dumb guy: Troll face
4 years later: "Welcome to Applebees, can I interets you in our drink specials?'

How is Nietzsche's theory of time being a flat circle different from reincarnation?

The soul is transported to another being.
Everything is repeated as you experience it in this lifetime.
>>7453080
so is is nietzche a determinist?
>>7453090
no, because you have/had free-will to make alterations, since this is your first iteration.
And it's actually always the first iteration. So you are free to do as you please but it'll happen forever...i.e you doing as you please for ever, in the same way, as determined by you freely, forever choice determined by you each time
>go to my local bookstore looking for some quirky-guard
>can't find philosophy section, nothing under literature
>find small philosophy section under Popular Science
>>7452893
stay mad
>>7452893
The philosophy section at my nearest bookshop consists of whatever ends up on two otherwise spare shelves between Popular Science and a syncretic clusterfuck of New Age self-help and Satanic Bibles titled 'Mind, Body and Spirit'.
I found Hegel in the latter section, but Russell, Wittgenstein and Hume all appeared under Philosophy. Ideology at its purest.
>browse the Fantasy section
>some edgelord has put a copy of the Bible there
>dude let me just give this sleeping poison to a love-crazed 13 year old girl so she can elope away from her parents with a family enemy xD nothings gonna go wrong trust me dude lmao xD

was shakespeare a hack?
>>7452791
Hey we all make mistakes man. You think a life of never EVER busting your nut is conducive to a detached rationality when cunny is involved?
TB honest this is just another example of Shakespeare's genius.
>reading a portrait of the artist as a young man
>uses words and references i don't understand
>find "joyce annotated" book online which explains everything
>longer than the actual novel
why do i need a book to translate another book, why does joyce use so many memes?
FUCK JAMES JOYCE
>>7452763
>why do i need a book to translate another book
I mean without a lot of knowledge about the Greeks and a lot of major literary works you're not going to understand a lot of the allusions and symbolism in 20th and 21st century lit.
>>7452763
forget about joyce
he was a third rate writer at best
focus on wallace and pynchon instead
What are some books about hating humanity?
>>7452670
American Psycho
>>7452670
Anything to do with buddhism and meditation is basically about hating your nature. I think that's a good thing to hate, but for some reason everyone gets really defensive about it.

Tao Lin is the living embodiment of the smug, detached Gen-X ethos.
I'd venture to guess he has never felt a single sincere conviction about anything since childhood. He exist as a polyp upon the colon of culture, satiating themselves on the perceived failures of others (i.e. "The Man") while adding nothing new to the discourse aside from ironic complaint.
He's an insecure, lost, rapidly aging burnout who silently believes he could do a better job of making art than the professionals in the industry. Yet he lacks the ambition and ability to...

What other ways are there to graph story? Like a graph of story development rather than pic related?
What tools do you use when writing, /lit/?
I'd suggest learning the five act structure and learning more about the components from the Collected Shakespeare.
I don't tend to trust people who talk about drama in three acts, maybe because it has a tendency to place lulls throughout the script, whereas in a five act play, you have a fourth act which is basically intended to be written as a sort of lull.
Here's how the Shakes organises Antony & Cleopatra!
http://www.cliffsnotes.com/literature/a/antony-and-cleopatra/play-summary
I try to force myself to find the rhythm in a certain chronology of plays, then invent my own five act summary which fits with the work of established authors.
Here I've added a play in red, 'Ptolemy & Cleopatra', it doesn't exist, but I think it should!
>Voldemort is one of the most powerful wizards in the world
>rivaled only by Dumbledore
>gets completely BTFO by a disarming spell
>not once but multiple times
Honestly, I used to love this series when I was younger but the older I get the more retarded it seems. JK Rowling is a horrible writer with no sense of continuity.
why the fuck do you keep reading it then?
>>7452165
>you must read a book within the past few years to remember it
>>7452169
I literally cannot remember the plot of Harry Potter or any book I read more than 5 years ago
If you could invite, say, 5 historical figures over for dinner, who would you choose?
socrates, hegel, joyce, pushkin and shakespeare
i would pretend i've never heard of any of them and we'd watch some tv and eat take out
The vestal virgins
>>7451981
I dunno about all people but limiting it to writers I'd invite Roberston Davies, Richard Wright, Chinua Achebe, Annie Dillard, and Kazuo Ishiguro.
When I first started I realized I had nothing but white guys, which doesn't seem very polite when it comes to the entire field of literature. This would give an interesting variety of perspective, although I would truly miss John Kenneth Galbraith and Saul Bellow and make sure to send them "thinking of you" cards.
