What's the literary equivalent of John Darnielle/The Mountain Goats? Besides John Darnielle ofcourse.
By that I mean, what writers have solidly constructed, consistent, well written output with lots of pathos and a diehard fanbase?

Why is Tolstoy so much greater than Dostoevsky?
>>7473379
Because they're both worse than Turgenev.
Um nah breh. Dosto is fucking epic and deals with themes like depression, death, life, and existentialism. Tolstoy is just posh people in love and other boring shit.
>>7473400
nonsense, tolstoy was the greatest novelist to ever live, anon.
I HAVE NO INSPIRATION OR IDEAS TO WRITE ABOUT
Writer's block is bullshit. I've been writing for close to a decade now, and have not the faintest notion of the thing; it's merely a euphemism for slaves who want to make a living out of scribbling because they are too lazy to do anything else. If a writer has something to say, it comes out by itself, if he doesn't, then what's the point in WANTING to write? — Money, of course.

Write about a space raptor that gets marooned on a hostile planet and needs to escape.
Write about a guitarist who makes a deal with the devil to play better and eventually goes on a downward spiral.
Write about 6 exiled knights returning home from their exile to take back their homeland.
Write about the busy life of a raven on a Sunday afternoon.
Write about anything anon.
What's the biggest problem in literature today?
What's holding authors back from creating masterpieces like our ancestors did?
memes, insincerity, political correctness, pop culture.

How do you reach a state of non-attachment, /lit/?
Where every situation is the best possible situation?
seems impossible 2bh even though so there's so many spiritual traditions that advocate it.
You haven't factored in time.

Is Nietzsche actually the worst philosopher? He's an epiphenomenalist spastic who couldn't make a single clear argument. He jumps to ridiculous conclusions, such as his stance that there is no "self", that there's a cosmic "world will", etc. without providing any substantial reason to believe anything that he says. He's all about making statements, most of them contrary to common sense or any serious philosophy, and never makes an argument. He fails to keep the reader's attention and serves only as an example of a bad philosopher....

>Is anyone actually worse than him?
Yes, and he's pretty much /lit/'s favorite philosopher.
YOU'RE MISUNDERSTANDING NIETZSCHE
>>7471247
He's not even a real philosopher. At most he's a critic.
So are metamodernism, post-postmodernism et al basically just "movements" founded by people desperate to be considered important but without any creativity, hence their extreme sense of self-importance despite relying on trite and anachronistic ideas and lacking anything interesting to say?

Weird fiction general? I just started on "The Weird: A Compendium of Strange and Dark Stories". Dug the excerpt of The Other Side, not so much The Screaming Skull. Also currently reading Laird Barron's Imago Sequence. I don't know why he doesn't get mentioned more around here.
racist shit
Thomas Ligotti thread? I'm just about to read "The Shadow, The Darkness". The last story in the "Teatro Grottesco" collection.
''In 500 years, they’re going to talk about rap the same way they talk about Shakespeare.''
Well, are they right /lit/?
>>7473456
No, it's shit.
No. A few rappers have the lyrical and musical talent to be recognized down the line. On the same level as shakespeare? Not even close. The genre is only so popular right now because the corporations can make money off of muh urban cultures. Welcome to America, home of moral decay.

Hey, what do you guys think of this basic idea I have for a novel?
> 18 year old guy molests his younger half sister
> gets kicked out after she tells CYFD and couch surfs for a while
> tries to hold an apartment while working at Wal-Mart for a while (his mom helps him a bit)
> starts to date date girl with BPD
> loses his apartment and moves in with his friend's family
> his mom...

What makes you think that anybody would want to read your autobiography?
>>7472826
Don't really like the ending.
what if you end it when he gets kicked out of his grandparents house?
Like, all this terrible shit happens and his grand parents are still willing to take him in. and it almost seems like things might be good again. cause crazy girl is gone and someone kind of believes in him. but then he fucks it all up, again, and realizes that he's burned his last bridge. and that's the end.
>>7472829
....what do you mean?
Do you think I am the prostitute or AIDS guy? lol
Halp /lit/.
>I studied last year, bachelor of arts, fuck that shit. Waste of money. I learn more reading alone.

>Can't think of anything to study. It all sucks. Considered secondary arts teaching, but have to move ages away to expensive place.
>Hoping to just move to a nearby city which is affordable, but what can I do...
