Thoughts on this man?
I just read his Poland and Alaska and was afraid i would slog through them, but they turned out to be great reads. Perhaps not the most accurate factually and ideologically, as he takes liberties and creates characters and events alongside historical ones, but i loved the way he creates context for geographical regions and describes the grandeur that exists in things most people would never bother describing like the view of the mountain ranges and forests from a town now lost to time, or the process required to mine gold in a permafrost.
I've...

How do I get into poetry? Is there a recommendation chart?
The wiki was not as helpful as I hoped?
I started with the Bloom and Norton anthologies and went from there.

Read an intro book to learn about meter, classic poem forms, rhyme and rhetorical techniques.
Then read a poetry anthology to get a good taste of different movements and poets.
Read more poetry.

How do I get my book published? All the publishers either won't respond to my emails or they'll just flat out decline.

Read some basic guides on what the publishing process is and why it's retarded to send publishers unsolicited manuscripts? How do you manage to write an entire book with so little initiative? Oh, wait. Disregard all that. Just don't bother trying. Put it on Amazon, if you give it a title similar to something else maybe a couple of people will buy it by accident.
>>7602671
So, how do you break into the industry, if not by sending manuscripts?
What books have made you cry /lit/?
Please tell us about the scene if it was character related, or if there was a certain passage if the prose was moving.

The end of the first chapter of The Recognitions made me tear up a bit.
The Prophet by Gibran.
The Famished Road by Okri.

Post the first paragraph from what you are currently writing. Follow that with a brief synopsis of what the story will be. Let's help each other improve from one paragraph.

You first.
Anyone else reading this guy? I'm at book 4 now and I feel like I should be bored with it but it's something about it that just sucks me in.
I'm reading the Swedish translation and a lot of it is very relatable, do people not living in the Nordic countries feel the same way?

Is it consistently great through all six books? I don't want to waste my time.

Do you seriously need other people to tell you what to read?
In my opinion you should refrain from reading works by homosexuals, women, and non-whites. Pick an old white male author

I'm asking for suggestion. Fuck you
Hey /lit/, as someone who lives in a shitty part of Asia, I often find myself alone in my admiration of Western ideals.
Most people I know think of colonialism and exploitation when they think of Europe, and they refuse to look any further than this. What books would you suggest to introduce an outsider/layman to Western culture? My go-to suggestion is usually just Thomas Paine's Rights of Man and some Wikipedia articles about things like the French Revolution to provide some historical context, but I was wondering if there are any other books that are more accessible...

This is a general Presocratics thread. Post your thoughts, questions, requests, or anything having to do with the Presocratics.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Is there an English translation for the PS of the same quality as DK?
2. Is there anything to be gained from articles about PS? I have read about ten articles on how (and if) Thales predicted the eclipse of 585BC and have ended up confused, rather than enlightened.
3. What the fuck is Heraclitus talking about?

Where should I start with the presocratics? I'm ready to start reading philosophy.
