And I was sitting in night, in my vehicle. Go to drive.. Guess what...
My tire blows out. At a church and I try driving it off 2 times. (Not working because the axel and turning of this vehicle is'nt.)
So I'm about to call someone on my phone, but I decide fuck it. At this church where I have broken down in this dream. What does this mean
If I were to look at the dream entirely metaphorically I would say that you have an urge to religious experience hidden in your unconscious. It could be suggesting that the mode of thinking which you've relied upon is not as potent as you originally thought and the only place to "repair" this vehicle (your world-view, beliefs, your philosophies, conscious decisions) is through supplementing it with regard for you own feeling, intuitions, and not your pure thinking.
How do to this? I'm not a psychoanalyst so you'd probably end up a raving lunatic...

It's a printing error.
It's supposed to be, "Sew, it goes".
In other words, if you do the proper work, significant events will eventually happen.
Shit happens. People die. Get over it.
If you wanted to start a real discussion about Slaughterhouse-Five, you led with the shittiest question imaginable.

I'm looking to get into medieval lit. What's the best English translation of the Decameron? What are some other essential works from the Middle Ages?
the bible
In English: Canterbury Tales or Confessio Amantis (the latter has had less posterity; both overlap more or less with the Decameron as for the stories), Piers Plowman, Gawain
>>8242665
Should I try to read The Canterbury Tales in the original vernacular or seek out a modern translation?

He had a fulfilling life I think.
Yes, and Dostoevsky literally murdered a pawnbroker and Thomas Pynchon can dowse V2s with his boners.
What are some other sites you guys go on for literature based discussion/news/etc.??
It's quite clear that this is one of the best online boards/forums for immediate discussion based around literature, but half, or more than half, of the posts are filled with trolls, bait, or people trying to seem edgy by purposely not liking good books because they're well known. (mostly this last one).
This whole 'meme' book thing seems to make people afraid to actually say they like a book, which is retarded. And when people bash books like Fahrenheit 451...

Who had the better idea in regards to the root of human action? Was it Freud (will to pleasure), Nietzsche/Adler (will to power), Frankl (will to meaning), or Schopenhauer (will to life)? Why do you think so? If you would like to bring up someone other than these, feel free to say so, but include a decent description of their ideas.

Hi /lit/, I'm a long time lurker, first time shitposter.
Just wondering if you could give me a list of required reading before I read Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

Seriously asking for advice here, guys. Just need somewhere to start.
You can read it by itself and it'll still be enjoyable, but to understand all his references, it is a start with the Greeks.
>Heraclitus
>Plato
>Diogenes
>Aristotle
>Aristophanes (The Clouds)
those will get you started, but you might want to consider getting a history of philosophy like Durant. Sophie's World is a good alternative if you're coming from only reading YA.Your other choice at this...

Ok, thanks. I tried reading it ages ago and the only reading I've done in philosophy is a bit of Socrates and Descartes for a intro to philosophy class i took a couple of years ago. Thanks.
Anyone know of some good Ancient Roman-esque fantasy? Not historical fiction, but like a whole new world and shit (think Codex Alera).
I've gotten wind of one book called Throne of Bones but going by the author's other works he comes across as like some amalgamation of /v/, /pol/, and /tv/ (has an unironic book called "Cuckservative") and while the guy's free to have his own political views, I'd rather not have that shit shoved everywhere into my fantasy reads. If I wanted to read books about IRL politics, I would buy a book about IRL politics.
Maybe Glen Cook's Dread Empire? (haven't read it)
If you don't mind historical fantasy there's quite a lot of it with the Greeks, like Gemmell's Parmenion or Troy novels, or Wolfe's Latro series

Hey idiot, Vox' whole idea is to ger away from real life politics in his fiction. He is anti-SJW which means race, gender, sexual preference, religion, etc. are not the core of his work. The story is.
He is exqctly what you are looking for.
>>8242395
This. Vox is a goddamn hero fighting for the light in a dark world. So make sure you buy the hardcover off Amazon. Don't cheap out on the ebook. He deserves the money.

I slightly feel this way about it, but I too stock up on books when I have the opportunity, used ones and such. Keeping a fat collection of unread books makes me feel like a wannabe intellectual, so it actually keeps me motivated to read through them and understand them so if anyone asks about the literature in my abode I can avoid looking like a pseud.

Any tips on transitioning from poetry to prose?
I want to write short stories, but I'm having a weirdly hard time.
>>8242168
Ask Joyce, he somehow managed to do it and write incredible, poetry-like prose.
Dealing with something perhaps similar, OP. Could you elaborate on your problems?
Two different beasts.
poetry is mainly rhythm
prose, if you're talking about novels, etc, is mostly characters.
so, you change your focus from rhythms to focusing on characters.
So what are the odds Martin has been writing TWOW as long as he has because he's basically been rewriting the entire latter third of the series?
It's been assumed for a while now that he told the GOT showrunners everything about his plans for the series. However, Martin may have realized at some point that the show was going to catch and pass him, so all his tricky twists and all his clever surprises would be unveiled. And Martin, as we all know, lives off those things. He's fundamentally a TV writer at heart; his bread and butter is plot twists, shock...
