This is just bad. What happened to this magazine? When I was a kid in the 90's, my father had a subscription and it was amazing. The stories were interesting and well written, the science was always on the edge of possibility, and the nonfiction pieces were fucking solid. It was just a fantastic little magazine. When I was a teenager I always had a copy stuffed in my jeans. I recently discovered a box of old issues in my closet and started reading them again. It reignited my love for short fiction and I ordered a subscription. The only problem is that the stories and writing...

Asimov's isn't a "classic science fiction" monthly like it used to be. It's about what's hot in more academic circles. Dating back to around '05 or '07 Asimov's Science Fiction has been less interested in thoughtful stories featuring experimental science that deal with philosophy, and more interested in popular stories in the trapings of scifi. Basically, they began catering to a younger, less thoughtful, more emotional, crowd.

That's insane. Just crazy. A magazine named after fucking Isaac Asimov, the father of dry science fiction is more concerned with poorly written, emotional stories than fucking science fiction! What the hell, man? Is it just another example of a magazine adapting to a new market or was there a massive change in leadership or something?

They've had the same editor for over a decade and won stacks of awards, if that means anything to you.

This is the second post of this thread.

I just found out that Cormac MacCarthy considered as second Faulkner.

What does /lit/ think of Thug Notes?
literally for retards.
Was never a fan of that part of the channel. When it started out I liked their film analyses, etc. But over time they've become more and more "clickbatey" which turned me off.
THE HIDDEN MEANING BEHIND....
Fuck off.
>>7682727
I mean if you literally have no understanding of a book then it's useful... but you could always just try paying attention in your English class.
What is the meaning of a heart of darkness?

Surely the plebeians will.
I'm excited tbqh.
>surely this can't be a real thing...
>of course it is
Jesus.
So this was awesome. But who were those 'men of the country' at the end?
And why were those other people trying to buy Blevins.
Been a few years since I've read it don't recall the men of the country part but they want to buy Blevins to make him a sex slave boy
>>7682471
I don't recall "men of the country".
They wanted Blemins' ass.
Also, read The Crossing. It's even better. Then read Cities of the plain for a fantastic finale.
Epistolary Novels? Sometimes I find the author forgets they're writing it in the form of journal entries/letters due to the extravagent detail. IMO, this kinda takes away from it and the style just kind of seems like it's there for nevelty. Besides not giving the monster a voice, (Which can be done in other ways.) It's kind of useless, isn't it? Your thoughts?

Hey /lit/
Probably the wrong place to post this but it's 1am and I need some help with my writing skills for a valentines day letter. I'll comment it on this thread so you can choose if you want to see my bad writing or not.
-My boyfriend will be away on holiday with some of his friends for valentines day and i'm going to give this letter for his friend to place on his bed on the day.
-I haven't told him I love him yet, and I know he won't say it first because he's pretty shy.
-He loves soppy/romantic shit, but I think less is...

"Scott.
You're an ocean away right now and I probably already miss you but I hope you're having a good time and that somebody spoons you tonight.
Not even a minute ago, you told me that youāre glad that we've never had a phone call, in case you'd slip out an āI love youā. I let you know that i've had to restrain myself at moments, too. Iām unsure of your reasons of restraint but Iāve been certain of mine.
You then called me right after, and I imagined to answer and have you tell me you love me. With this meant that iād...

That's too long and calling someone an ocean is rude
Take pic related for some inspiration

Shakespeare's Sonnets are hokey romantic crap, pull themes from them, flip them into prose, and modernize them.
Hey /biz/ I'm looking for a BOOK with this same image but the person is a robot and muscular, With a 80s era style blue and pink thanks

Some nut actually gifted this book to me at this weird party, is it good?
I read a few pages and it seemed like bizarre pseudo-science.
These books kill me. They're hilarious. What your favorite ridiculous part?

And hidden.

The white mother and daughter cringe combo who know nothing about native american culture writing in Native American culture and also attempting to write black colloquialism in dialogue was hilarious to me. It read like a fan fiction like most YA novels.
Does anyone have epubs of these books by zola? i have tried libgen/bookzz and nothing. i cant find them online. maybe someone would like to share them? thanks
Emile Zola - The Fortune of the Rougons
The Conquest of Plassans
The Sin of Father Mouret
Doctor Pascal
Money
Bump. Anyome?
Last bump. No one has those books? Damn.
Do you read two books at the same time. Is it ok with a fictional book an a non-fictional one?
typically ill have an easy-reading book alongside a harder book
examples of recent easy reads: ham on rye, breakfast of champions, a room of one's own
examples of recent hard reads: capital in the twenty-first century, the myth of sisyphus, the ambassadors
>>7682222
I generally go through phases of balancing multiple books at once to dedicating myself to one singular title. It just depends on the situation. Do what feels right.
>>7682222 (ā)
My only principle is to not read more than one at a time from the same author or books that are too similar. Also I generally keep it to just one or two at a time.
I just purchased pic-related.

Knausgaard next?
>>7682059
>Knausgaard next?
If some Norwegian company wants to make it, maybe, but that's irrelevant to this
Not expecting this to be particularly good tbqh
knausgaard is horrible. fuck off. neapolitan novels would make a good TV series. quite a bit of it is interior thoughts (particularly the scenes when things lose their forms) but the supporting characters are well fleshed out so it'd make a good ensemble cast.
>>7682059
I always looked at these and was never interested, but I've seen them pop up more often on reader circles. Are they actually good?
