The falling birthrate has very little to do with homosexuality, its more that industrial and post-industrial economies don't incentivize large families. In agrarian/third world economies, large families make sense since there's demand for unskilled labor, and the risk of premature death is very high. Whereas in the first world, the emphasis is on educated and skilled workers, so it doesn't make sense to have more kids than you can afford to send to college.
In fact, this may be WHY homosexuality is more accepted these days; with reproduction no longer being as important, it's more acceptable to have non-reproductive sex. A large part of why homosexuals came to be hated in traditional societies is because gay sex is basically a waste of time and energy; if you're not going to reproduce you should be working in the fields or actually contributing to society somehow. Of course, now homophobia is carried on mostly as a tradition, without people really thinking about why they view homosexuality as a negative thing.

When I was a kid, I was told that the local gay club in my town would have "underwear parties" where the attendees would strip down to nothing but their boxers. Depending on their preference, they would either wear the underwear normally or backwards to denote if they were a top or bottom. The other details were that the club would turn off all the lights and each person carried flashlight. It was implied they were all having sex with each other during this.

I'd wager that the supposedly disproportionate ratio of gay-to-straight people among trans people has more to do with openly trans people being less likely to hide their sexuality. A lot of cis folks, even in accepting areas, are very guarded and closeted when it comes to sexuality. Since trans people are already transitioning, they'd be less likely to care about who thinks they're gay or straight or bi or whatever. Of course, that's assuming that the gay-to-straight ratio is actually disproportionate among trans people, which we don't know for sure.
