I find myself using it as a part of my 2d workflow more and more. I can't into perspective, but with blender I can block out a scene to scale really quickly and toss in a camera and a couple lights and get an idea of how a room or outdoor setting should look. I avoided 3d in the past because of how complicated it is on the surface, but its a skill just like any other so it just takes time and patience.
As far as losing motivation, I had the some problem at first. My advice is to keep pushing. Even seemingly simple projects can feel overwhelming or get bogged down in details. Start with something easier and see it through to completion. Hone the skillset that you've developed to that point. It will feel like a bigger accomplishment. You get to a point where you think, "Shit, I can do better than this now. Let's try something different." Thats what keeps me going anyway.
Render is about a year old now. I think I did it over a weekend.
