How does /lgbt/ feel about legislation against discrimination in employment, hate crimes, etc.? I have a fairly libertarian philosophy and am therefore opposed to most government restrictions, but at the same time I don't like having to worry about being killed/losing my job for being trans. What do?

They're good I guess, but the reality of it is that it's your coworkers that just end up making your life a living hell to try and make you quit. So it's really impossible to end the discrimination.
>>
>>6498964
Anti-discrimination laws belong in govt. jobs only. The public should have no say in the hiring practices of private companies. Corporations are another matter.
>>
>>6498964
If you are a church or some kind of religious organization, then you should be able to hire with discrimination.

Otherwise it is just retarded. Oh no I cannot fire the fag doing their job at the McDonalds I am franchising. They hate Jesus.

you have the answer right there: just stop being libertarian. the reason why is in your post.

Starting to come around to this way of thinking t b h. I guess maybe I should start focusing around the abuses of government rather than just government in general, because honestly I can't see why should I care if some /pol/-tier CEO can't fire openly LGBT people or if someone gets a longer sentence for a hate crime.
>>
In theory, no one should have to change who they choose to hire or not based on government regulations. After all, a job is an agreement between two individuals. If one wants to break off that agreement, they should be able to choose to.
However, in practice, it is not hat simple. People who are not have the majority race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. will have difficulty finding or keeping a job. Obviously this will hurt the individual incredibly, but it will affect the economy and community at large.

So really, you have to take a stance based on all these factors. Would you take the freedom of libertarianism knowing that people are stupid and the economy and society are often dictated by entirely arbitrary religious and cultural rules, or will you legislate against those stupid rules but give up a great deal of economic freedom in return?

I, personally, don't know where I stand. But in general, I am not libertarian.

just shift left but stay libertarian

>abloo bloo I can't fire a perfectly capable employee because they're a faggot muh rights
there are far more egregious rights violations and they're rarely on the economic side

I'm actually fairly leftist in terms of my economic thinking, but I sort of have a knee jerk reaction to any sort of authority owing to some bad experiences I had with police and my school when I was a kid. Where I grew up, most people were scared of the police because their presence usually meant being questioned, asked for ID, and just generally treated like a criminal even if you were only out for a walk. At school... well let's just say there's a reason I didn't transition until after high school was over.

We may not have a huge presence in American culture, but there are some of us here (assuming that's where you're from) who are Libertarian Socialists and can appreciate leftist economic thinking so long as it is in a more or less voluntary context.

You either totally missed their point or you are creating strawmen to argue against. Not surprised you are a leftist.

Grow up probably.

well yeah, being mad at cops stopping you for nothing and demanding ID and questioning is definitely a libertarian thing

They're unconstitutional as fuck but no one has cared about the Constitution for fucking ever so whatever

Honestly we might as well throw the document out at this point
The right only cares about the second amendment and the left only cares about the first (and there's a growing population who don't care about the first)

If we were true to the way our founding fathers felt about the Constitution a hate crime would just be a normal crime because who the fuck cares about motivation (outside of having a reason for doing the crime) and businesses would be able to deny business and hire/fire whoever the fuck they wanted
But this is America and we only pretend to respect the founders

Personally I'm fine with this because it'll make the transition away from the Constitution easier in my fantasy of an American empire

Anyway you should continue to focus in on true right violations like gay marriage, abortion, tranny rights, guns
Those definitely are NOT distractions in any way

I think all anti discrimination legislation is bad but I figure if every other minority gets anti discrimination legislation why can't we have it?

Seriously though why does it seem like every libertarian is a 15-year-old edgelord

Libertarians thinking that "muh government restrictions" is a good enough excuse for permitting the majority to discriminate against the minority baffle me. What exactly screams liberty about refusing to do anything about dictator-like behavior? How is it more noble to restrict the powers of government to prevent discrimination than it is to restrict the majority's power to discriminate? And how is it that a private company should have more rights than me?
